During World War II, many people from nearby towns took up arms against Japan because they saw Japan as an aggressor nation that had invaded China while Korea was still under Japanese rule. Many men from Hanahan enlisted in the military or went off to fight with other patriotic groups throughout South Carolina and Georgia before returning home soon after hostilities ended.
