The first period was from the early 1900s to the late 1960s, during which red dot sights were common on American firearms. The second period was from the 1970s to the present day, during which red dot sights have become more popular in Europe and other countries. The early 1800s were a time when rifles were designed with traditional manual cocking actions, such as those used in breech-loading guns. These guns required the user to use their fingers to cock the gun by means of a rod that came out of the side of the barrel. With this type of action, a Manual Red Dot Sight (MDS) was not possible. In order for a rifle user to effectively use their MDS, they needed something that would allow them to see through their weapon's scope while shooting at targets moving around inside or outside of it. One possible solution would be an adjustable iron/titanium scope called a monocular or bipod optic. However, these scopes were expensive and difficult to use; moreover, they remained mainly limited to military use and wealthy landowners until around 1880 when inventor George Weiser developed what he call "the eyelet Weaver"scope design[1]. This invention allowed owners of small businesses or farmers who didn't have access to sophisticated telescopes or equatorial mounts to buy quality telescopes and mount them on their own homes so they could view nature at its finest using simple equipment[2].
