The original downtown area still exists today but many parts have been replaced by more recent buildings due to the high cost of demolishing older ones for new development Lt Col Leroy Rector III told me that $350,000 per acre for new land has become standard for most towns when it comes time to redevelopment because there simply isn't enough open land around here anymore Greer is located about 21 miles south of Greenville and 16 miles north of Fort Mill
Greer was founded in 1856 by John Greer and his family. The town grew rapidly during the 1870s, thanks to the cotton industry. The population reached 10,000 by 1880, and almost 25,000 by 1910. Greer was designated a city in 1915.
