Westphal and his family lived on the current site of the First Baptist Church until 1875. In 1920, Greenwood had four churches: First Baptist (founded in 1869), Methodist (1874), Presbyterian (1886), and African American (1902). In 1930, three more churches were added: Second Baptist (established in 1898), Third Baptist (founded in 1910), and Presbyterian Dutch Reformed Church ( founded in 1912). It wasn’t until after World War II that Greenwood truly started to grow as an industrial center due to its production of steel parts for cars and other manufacturing products during wartime shortages across the country. By 1970, Greenwood had six factories employing over 1,000 people making everything from tires to plastics. However, by 2001 there were just five factories remaining employs around 500 people making everything from lawn care supplies to household items such as air filters and dishwashers
