Greenwood holster history began in 1892 when John C. Greenwood and his son, Fred, started making holsters for pistols and revolvers. In 1928, Greenwood Armory was founded by Fred Greenwood as the first American-made holster company. The company continued to make holsters until 2006.
Greenwood is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. It is located on the Greenville-Spartanburg railroad and is home to Greenwood High School and the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. The area that would become Greenwood was first settled by Scotsmen in the early 1800s. The name "Greenwood" originated from a large oak tree that stood in the center of what would eventually become Greenwood. The men who first settled there began to use the name because of its similarity to "Gordonshire," which they had seen on maps when they first arrived in South Carolina. In 1814, Englishman John Smith purchased land near present-day Greenwood from a Cherokee Indian tribe for £100 sterling. He named his new settlement after Sir George Stewart's estate in Scotland, Gordonshire House. After years of growth and development within the community, it was decided that an elementary school should be built in 1930; however, due to funding limitations, this did not happen until 1955. A nuclear plant being built nearby called for increased safety measures around town so a fire department was needed; this also occurred in 1955. In 1974, First Presbyterian Church opened its doors as one of only two churches in Spartanburg County with services available during daylight hours (the other church being Saint John's Episcopal). That same year saw the opening of Friendship Park which served as an open-air shopping mall for residents and visitors alike until it closed down in 1990 due to numerous problems such as vandalism and arson. Finally, on November 1st 1978 – more than 50 years after incorporation – Greenwood became one of only 10 townships statewide to join forces with neighboring Soquel village under then newly created county government structure known as Anoka County (later changed back to Spartanburg County). This unification happened despite strong opposition from some residents who felt their community remained separate and unique enough without joining forces with anyone else outside their own community limits! Today much has changed since those early days when settlers started moving into what would eventually become Greenwood: jobs have moved away leaving little opportunity for local businesses; various challenges have arisen throughout our history including natural disasters such as Hurricane Hugo which devastated much of downtown Greenville; but most importantly we continue to be a vibrant part of Spartanburg County culture where family values are still important top priority!

Greenwood was founded by John Greenwood in 1784. The town was named for Greenwood Forest, a natural area located near present-day Greenvile, South Carolina. Greenwood became a vital center of trade and commerce in the early 19th century. In 1813, the town passed through an act of Congress which granted charters to several towns in the Pee Dee region. These charter towns included Greenwood and Ninety Six. The town's first courthouse was built in 1815 on Woodruff Street. In 1830, Greenwood voted to become an official state seat of South Carolina. In 1865, Union soldiers burned down the old courthouse and many other buildings in what is now known as Battle Creek Drive. The town experienced heavy damage during World War II when Japanese forces bombed it while Allied troops were fighting at Lingayen Gulf. After the war, Greenwood underwent numerous renovations and development opportunities which have made it one of the most vibrant communities in central South Carolina today.
