The City Manager’s Office has created an outdoor recreation program called “Aquatics Park” which includes a large pond perfect for fishing or swimming as well as several beach access points throughout town for those who would like some privacy while enjoying their time outdoors The first Europeans known to visit this area were Dutch traders who stopped here on their way from Pensacola Island in 1715/16
Greenwood was founded in 1771 by James Greenwood and his wife, Rebecca. The first post office was opened in 1818. In 1881, Greenwood incorporated as a town. The population reached 2,500 in 1910 and 5,000 in 1930.
