The Greenville Rifle and Pistol Company was an American infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. After being mustered out on June 5, 1865, the unit participated in the Surrender of Petersburg ( February 14-15, 1865).
Greenville, South Carolina is a city in the US state of South Carolina. The population was 103,611 at the 2010 census. It is the fifth-largest city in South Carolina and the largest city in Greenville County. The area that now makes up Greenville was first settled by English colonists in 1697. The town was chartered on December 1, 1775, as "King's Town", after King George II of Great Britain granted it to Colonel John Stuartfakell for his services during the American Revolution. In 1815, Greenville became part of Confederate States of America under General Robert Ewell. In 1861, when Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, General Ulysses S Grant ordered Major General Nathaniel Pemberton to march on Greenville with over two thousand men to relieve the garrison there. Pemberton reached Greenville on July 15 but found that only a small detachment of Union troops remained loyal to the Confederacy and encamped outside the town limits; he then retreated back into Charleston until relieved by Union forces on September 12. Afterward, Greensboro became an important center for cotton production and served as a major supply depot for Confederate armies throughout the war. During Reconstruction following Reconstruction (1868–1871), Greenville became one of several black towns designated as "segregated" areas within white society; people who were not white were prohibited from living or working near black settlements without special permission from their respective leaders. This policy did not apply equally to all black residents of Greensboro; some were integrated into white society while others continued to live among them subordinate to African Americans both politically and socially. After World War II ended and Federal Aid began arriving to rebuild postwar America, many greenfield cities like Greensboro experienced rapid growth due in large part to federal largesse which flowed through various economic development programs known as New Dealism such as highway construction projects across America’sadasinated regions – thus creating new employment opportunities for millions of citizens including African Americans who had formerly been relegated primarily to low-paying jobs in factories or service sectors peripheryto industrial production zones located away from urban centers where they constituted majority shareof workers

It was formed on December 3, 1795 from part of Beaufort County. The first permanent white settler in what is now Greenville was John Clinger who arrived in 1796. In 1802, James Kenedy established a flour mill here and began to trade with surrounding counties. By 1807, Greenville had become an important town due to its location between Charleston and Savannah on the Ashley River. The town's growth continued until the American Civil War devastated it as mills closed and manufacturers moved out. During the war, thousands of men were drafted into service in various manufacturing fields but very few returned home alive. Some residents decided to stay behind after the war ended and started businesses such as grocery stores and cotton ginners. After Reconstruction took place following the end of the war, many African Americans migrated to Greensville from states like Mississippi and Alabama in search of better lives. However, this migration did not last long as most new arrivals found employment or housing much easier than life back home had been during Reconstruction era slavery times - although some black families did stay for generations afterwards through integration into white society). In 1957, Greensville became one of seven cities proposed by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin for inclusion within Selma Municipal Airport District No 3 which would have created jobs for locals throughout Selma; however state legislators vetoed that proposal because they felt that airport development should be handled by a single entity instead of being scattered among municipalities (Greensville would eventually be re-established within Selma Municipal Airport District No 3). One major change brought about during Mayor Jerry Seals' term was increased funding made available through voter approved bond measures which allowed for renovation/repair/updates to City Hall including new roofs/windows/stainless steel door handles etc.; propelling downtown redevelopment that has seen significant interest from both business owners and residents alike over recent years culminating with plans for a new high school complex adjacent to City Hall that could house up to 4K students; work on which is currently progressing slowly but surely as more funds are needed (see photo below).
