But despite initial optimism about their new neighbor's prospects for growth – Columbia City quickly became embroiled in scandal and failed attempts at annexation by other municipalities – Greenville annexedColumbia City two more times before finally settling on its current borders as defined by U.S.—South Carolina state law in 2005: 8 square miles extending fromareas east of I-85 (including parts of what are now Greenwood Village) upriver towards Myrtle Beach while including most of downtown Corinth downriver towards Charleston; all land northward from I-85 (excluding Greenwood Village) being within the limits set forth above plus an additional 1/4 mile for each mile east or west of I-85
