Goose Creek is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,554 at the 2000 census. The community was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1835. It is located on SC Route 9 and is part of the Greenville–Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Goose Creek comes from an incident where a goose came to live near the creek and began to lay eggs. The settlers named the creek for the goose and their children were able to catch enough eggs to feed everyone for a day or so. The first post office was established in 1836 and remained in operation until it closed in 1906. The first store was opened in 1840 and remains open as of 2010. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location on two main highways – SC Route 9 and US Routes 1 & 5 – as well as its access to water resources such as rivers, creeks, lakes, ponds, and wells that supported agriculture, livestock production, manufacturing, logging operations, and tourism. In 1938 the town had a population of 3,000 people; by 1990 it had grown to over 10,000 people with continued growth potential thanks to new housing developments along Interstate 95 and Rapid City Boulevard. In recent years Goose Creek has been characterized as "the fastest-growing community in Spartanburg County" due primarily to its strong economy Torrance Homes being one of the primary developers within the area since 2001 when they purchased 8 acres adjacent to SCRoute 9 for $14 million making Goose Creek one of South Carolina's most upscale communities with high-end homes available for purchase both inside and outside of town limits

Goose Creek is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Spartanburg County. The town was founded in 1838 by General James Hargrave and his family. They named it for Goose Creek in North Carolina. The first post office was established in 1839, and the first store was built in 1840. In 1847, the First Baptist Church was built and became operational as a church school after being donated by General Hargrave's widow. In 1850, Colonel John Seddon erected a small log cabin on the east side of Goose Creek for his wife Martha Seddon and their six children during their honeymoon trip from England to America. After they returned home, Colonel Seddon moved his family into their new cabin until he could build a larger one closer to town which he did in 1853-54. The current structure of the Seddons' cabin dates back to this time period; it is now known as "The Cabin". When Spartanburg County was created on January 8, 1889 from Union County, its first president (and later state senator)was Judge Elisha Murchison who also served as justice of peace for that county at that time. Judge Murchison chose Goose Creek as its county seat because he saw potential development there due to its location close to two important waterways: Duck River on the north side of town and Jacksboro River on the south side where some plantations were located (the latter still extant). On February 3rd 1870 an act providing for election of commissioners form each circuit also included Grouse Creek Township within Spartanburg County when it became effective following Charlestown's secession from South Carolina due to political differences over voting rights with neighboring counties such as Edgefield which had seceded earlier that year under similar circumstances but remained part of South Carolina! However despite this act provisioning for township elections within Spartanburg County only took place five years later when on November 4th 1875 Major General Jubal Early arrived at Goose Creek during a campaign stopover there before continuing on downriver towards Fort Sumter prior to his battle with Robert E Lee inside Charleston Harbor which led eventually to Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House four days later! As recently as 2000s/2010s there has been some effort made by local businesses & government entities such as city government & school district to increase goose creek tourism through various marketing efforts including website design/development & social media promotion
Goose Creek is a long, narrow stream that flows through the counties of Pickens and Spartanburg. It was named for a Goose that nested on the banks of the creek. The first white person to live in what is now Goose Creek Township was John Fenton in 1832.
