In 1908, the South Carolina State Rifle Association (SCSA) formed a pistol range on Duck Island off of Duck Lake Road. This range operated until 1959 when it was closed due to lack of patronage. In 1912, SCSA founded an airsoft field on Goose Creek’s east side that continues to operate today under the name “Gunsports Park”. This field became home to many local team events over the years, including duck hunting tournaments and skeet tournaments. One of the most popular pastime activities at Gunsports Park has been target shooting competitions which have featured some of southern America’s top shooters such as Willie Greenfield and Don Shafer among others over the years. Competition rules vary from year to year but generally involve firing Practice Rounds instead of actual rounds from rifles or pistols during matches lasting around 20 minutes each time limit).

A new elementary school opened east of downtown in 1961 named after Judson Ladd who chaired South Carolina's delegation to the United Nations during apartheid era Africa. After years of planning and construction, CCISD completed construction on what is now Duckworth Middle School—the first K–12 middle or high school within city limits—in 1984. This addition increased enrollment from 2,500 students to nearly 12,000 today! Today, Goose Creek experiences strong growth due to its many businesses; recent projects include: an Arena District development that includes an NHL hockey team (the Charlotte Checkers), a new ballpark for baseball (Mclean Park), plans for a library/gallery/shopping complex called Pinnacle Pointe Commons which will seat 3 million people (!), plans for similar sized mixed use developments along Interstate 85 south of downtown (@ 30th St & I-85 W) – all while maintaining its smalltown feel!
