Goose Creek is located in the Hiwassee River Valley of South Carolina, about 25 miles east of Greenville. The creek has its source at an elevation of 4,690 feet above sea level and flows generally southeast for nearly its entire length. The river’s course is flanked by mountains to the northwest and northeast, andounded by low ridges of laurel and oak forest to the southeast. The creek empties into the Hiwassee River near Greenville. It has a surface area of 14 square miles and a total population of about 2,000 people. The primary industry in Goose Creek is agriculture, with crops such as corn, soybeans, cotton, potatoes, eggs, applesauce, and hogs. There are also several small businesses in town. The history of Goose Creek began with two families that started living there in 1827. They were discovered by white men while hunting game on the Hiwassee River. The first settlers were David Smithers and his family who moved from Macon County in Georgia to establish a farm hereabouts. Other early settlers included John Goodloe (1828-1912), who arrived from North Carolina; James Ladd (1829-1900), who came from Tennessee; Eli Whitney (1837-1920), who was born at Sugar Grove Plantation near Georgetown; Elijah Thornton (born 1839), one of three boys born to Revuel Prentice Thornton (1791-1864) and his wife Lucy Ann Lanee (1792-1868); Joseph Aiken (1840-1902) from Randolph County; Willis Brownlow(born 1841) from Kershaw County; Ebenezer Scudder(born 1843)from Richland County; Lewis Hinson(born July 26th 1840)from Wilkesboro Township.;and Robert Ritchie(baptized December 15th 1840). All but Watkins died before they reached their destination: David Smithers became pastor at Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville before he died in 1830 aged 44 years old followed by John Goodloe forty-one years later when he fell sick during a hunting trip downriver which resulted in his death on March 30th 1862 aged seventy four years old Two other families - those led by Captains John Dillard(baptized August 12th 1793 – died October 10th 1861) and William Byrd II(baptized February 5th 1795 – died January 8th 1865)- arrived some time later: Captain Dillard’s wife Eliza Rouse’s family settled downstream from where Captains Dillard had landed on September 6teenth 1800 along what is now called Duckworth Road just beyond present day Old Fort Graham State Park ; Captain Byrd’s wife Tryphena Custis Byrd’s family settled upstream past where Captain Byrd had landed September 6teenth 1800 according to records . In addition to these pioneer families additional others soon arrived including husbandry slaves named Higgins , White Jr., Rankin , Hammond IV & V etc……………. most all natives south carolina citizens during this time period

Goose Creek is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,865 at the 2010 census. The community is named after Goose Creek, a small stream that flows through the town. The first permanent residents of Goose Creek were soldiers from Fort Sumter who took up residence in 1838 during the American Civil War. In 1861, the Confederate States of America (CSA) made Goose Creek part of its own state and renamed it "Spartanburg." When Union forces occupied South Carolina during the war, they burned all of Spartanburg and exiled its inhabitants to Goose Creek. During Reconstruction in South Carolina, many freedmen moved to Goose Creek because it had become one of the most prosperous black towns in the region. The post office was established in 1872 and remained open until it was closed by USPS officials in 1959 due to budget cuts. In 1951, when Spartanburg County became part of Greenville County, Goose Creek's status as an incorporated municipality increased; however, three-quarters of its citizens still reside within Spartanburg County limits. As with most rural African American communities throughout south central SC during this time period (late 19th century), agricultural production played an important role in local life; crops such as cotton and rice were grown on large patches of land accessed by roads or rivers that kept goods moving between farms and cities throughout much of southcentral SC during this time period
Goose Creek was the first major stream in South Carolina. The creek's name comes from a white man named George Goose who found it in 1735.
