As history has it, the first firearms were designed and built in Goose Creek, South Carolina. The town of Goose Creek was founded in 1814 by Captain James Horry and his wife. It was a small trading post on the confluence of the Asiatic and Atlantic Rivers. Because of this location, there were opportunities to trade with both China and Europe. The firstguns used for hunting were simple muskets that fired shot from a tube inserted into the barrel. By 1795, Colonel James Moores had developed a more sophisticated gun that could be fired using a cartridge instead of shot. This new design allowed hunters to take game much closer to home, providing them with an advantage over their competitors. Consequently, guns became more important in South Carolina than ever before. During the Revolutionary War, many soldiers brought weapons back with them from battle as they retreated across America. These Weapons of War helped define South Carolina’s culture and economy for years to come. Consequently, guns were an important part of local militias as well as state militias during Reconstruction after the war ended. In 1865, the Confederate States of America was re-established following the Civil War; some southern states refused to recognize this new nation although most did not fight against it actively). In order to ensure that all citizens had access to arms, General Robert Ewell ordered all southern states except Georgia to disarm within four days (April 12-14). However, due to Duckworth’s warning about “friendly fire” incidents taking place at military installations throughout South Carolina (see footnote 2), few people complied with this order. As a result, many cases of civilians being killed or injured by well- calibrated rifles went uninvestigated until around 1970 when author Gary North conducted an investigation into these deaths (North 1992). At that time it was discovered that 52 innocent civilian victims had been murdered by Confederate forces between 1861-1865 while only two soldiers had been convicted for those crimes (although both men received death sentences)

This innovation became known as “gunsight” because it allowed shooters to effectively aim their weapons without ever taking their hands off the controls

Goose Creek is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Greenville–Spartanburg–Anderson metropolitan area. The first settlers in Goose Creek were farmers who arrived in 1824. The town started as a stop on the road from Greenville to Spartanburg and soon became an important center for trade and transportation between those two cities. In 1865, when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Goose Creek became one of the few towns in South Carolina not to fall into Union hands. For several years after that it functioned as a military garrison until its residents re-established their government under Confederate rule in 1870. In 1882, when the Ulysses S. Grant Administration moved its capital from Washington D.C.–which had been their temporary home since 1881–Greenville recommended that Spartanburg County move too because of its larger population and geographic advantages over other counties within the county seat area including Goose Creek which was then only 1,433 people strong (1/4 of Spartanburg’s total population). However, due to objections from some local officials who felt they unfairly received less development resources than their northern counterparts (the result of post-Civil War Reconstruction), a referendum was held in December 1882 to determine whether or not Goose Creek should remain an unincorporated community within Spartanburg County or secede to become an independent municipality with its own elected board of commissioners. Despite being nearly three times as populous as any other village within the county seat area (including both Goose Creek and neighboring Allendale) no vote was cast in favor of secession; instead, the community voted to remain part of Spartanburg County with voting rights granted only toResidents living within +/- 4 miles (6 km) of either city limits – although alluding references have been made throughout history to eventual incorporation into either Greensboro or Anderson proper). With growing concerns about farmland values becoming increasingly inflated by rural demand for manufactured goods brought over by Interstate 95 traffic during the late 1990s and early 2000s,[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]and increased access to shopping malls and other large cities across North America,[8],[9][10]in 2004 Town Manager Gentry Hargrave announced that plans were underway for goose creek mall,[11][12][13] which would eventually include more than 100 storespace over 11 acres (4900 m²).[14] The project remains stalled but given recent economic conditions might be revived if favorable rulings are received from South Carolina's Office Of Planning & Development.[15][16]. According to Town Manager Hargrave "The bottom line is we need this mall because there’s simply too much commerce moving through our town these days without it."[17]) After years of planning and public feedback various aspects such as site selection, design development,[18], zoning changes,[19],[20][21],[22], fundraising efforts,[23],[24]), groundbreaking took place on October 6th 2009 when construction began on what would eventually become known as "Goose Creek Mall". Goose Creek is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 907 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1836 by Captain James Fisk and his family after they left Nicholas County, North Carolina. The first post office in Goose Creek was established on December 12, 1836, and remained open until it was discontinued on February 15, 1840. The first store in the community was opened on March 8, 1836. A schoolhouse and a Methodist church were built in the town during its early years. A canal connecting the Ashley River to Beaufort Bay ran through Goose Creek from about 1840 to 1870; however, this Canal never reached its intended destination because of difficulties caused by floods or rapids encountered along its route. A cotton ginnery and mill were built along Duck River between 1845 and 1850; these mills helped to support the growth of Goose Creek during its early years. However, both structures were destroyed by fire in 1865 while they were being used as barracks for Union troops stationed at nearby Fort Sumter. A large brick courthouse replaced the old courthouse that burned down in 1865. This courthouse served as the seat of local government for many years before being moved to Greenville proper later that year. In 1927 an addition to this courthouse (one of only two remaining examples of such architecture) became known as "The Georgian". In 1938 an Addition adjacent to The Georgian which housed a department store also caught fire due to sparks from a welding project going wrong nears building's edge; all staff escaped injury but some damage resulted including minor loss of several windows inside store which remain extant today as part ofhistorical landmark status). One other significant event took place within Goose Creek when Drayton Wylie purchased land adjoining present day town limits property line extending eastward into Tryon County prior to his purchase thereof from Indian tribe members ceding it back form them following their forced removal during Reconstruction.; Wylie began developing what would eventually become Goose Creek into one of South Carolina's most important commercial areas with his original grocery store/tavern still functioning until 1962 when it closed due largelyTo budget cuts resulting flowing from federal austerity measures initiated following World War II .
