Goose Creek is a town in York County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,964 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia metropolitan area. The community was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1828. In 1836, the creek was named for General James Longstreet and his family who had settled there two years earlier. The first post office in Goose Creek opened in 1834. The first store was built on Main Street in 1835 and operated until 1840 when it burned down. A second store opened on Depot Street in 1840 and operated until 1944 when it closed due to economic reasons. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell organized a military expedition known as " drive from Bull Run" which aimed to cross the Potomac River into Virginia and destroy Union forces there. One of the objectives of this expedition was to capture Goose Creek Bridge which would allow easy passage for reinforcements heading southward towards Richmond across the river. The bridge eventually fell into Confederate hands and became a major obstacle to Union efforts to cross the river at that location; most notably during Overland Campaigns later that year. A new bridge was constructed over Goose Creek between 1910-1911 by contractor George Waddell; this bridge remains one of the town's landmarks today and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984 . In 1928, local resident John Burch developed what would become Pee Dee Farms; this agricultural enterprise employed up to 400 people throughout its duration . In 1969, Pee Dee Farms merged with adjacent land holdings forming what is now called Sand Hill Farms LLC.; this company continues to produce crops such as corn, cotton, soybeans, rice and peas . In recent years, Goose Creek has seen an increase in development with several high-end residential developments being erected along Main Street including Sofitel Park Resort & Spa (2009), Magnolia Place (2013), Creekside Plaza (2015) & Bellaire Oaks

The first settlers to what is now Goose creek were George and Mary Foote who came to the area in 1817. The current town was founded on December 3, 1838 by James Waddell and others from Scotland as a result of the American Civil War. It was renamed after General Andrew Johnson during Reconstruction because of his connections to that era in America Since its establishment as a town, Goose Creek has undergone many changes and developments. In 1860 it became one of the few places in South Carolina that allowed blacks to vote. This led to some tension with white citizens but eventually Bridge over Troubled Water developer John Dickson Clarke helped make good on his pledge to give all black residents access to education and jobs as part of Reconstruction policy. In recent years, Goose Creek has seen growth thanks in part to its location within easy reach of Interstate 95 and other major highways. The community has also become known for its annual Christmas light display which draws large crowds each year
The town of Goose Creek was founded in 1811 by General James Blair and his family. The first post office was established here in 1812. In 1847, the town became a part of Greenville County. In 1911, Goose Creek became an independent city and has since grown into a major agricultural center with over 120 businesses.
