Goose Creek is a small town located in the US state of South Carolina. The population was 1,748 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Goose Creek was James Aiken who came to what is now Goose Creek in 1799. The community name "Goose" derived from one of Aiken's children saying that there were no geese in his farm field near where he lived. In 1819, Colonel John Crayton built a subscription mill on the Goochi River for grinding corn and cattle for local farmers. By 1830, Goose Creek had a school and two stores. In 1835, Reverend Elijah White opened his first African American church in what is now Goose creek with 100 members. Reverend White served as pastor until 1860 when he moved to nearby Greenville to be closer to family members back home in North Carolina. In 1861–1865, during the American Civil War, many men from south central SC joined Confederate forces because they saw no other way out than fight for their country against northerners who they felt were

Goose Creek is located in Union County, South Carolina, and was first settled in the early 1800s. The creek has its namesake from a local legend which relates to a goose that spent time on the creek during a snowstorm. A cold raincoat could not keep the goose warm, so people believe that the young geese were punished by being unable to find food during their stay. The name " Gooser" was likely derived from this story. In 1868, Goose Creek Dam was built along the creek and helped increase its water supply. Today, Goose Creek is an important waterway for navigation and residents rely on it for drinking, irrigation, and agricultural purposes. The history of Goose Creek begins with the arrival of white settlers in what is now Union County in 1802. By 1810, there were over 20 families living in what is now Goose Creek Township. Over time, many families moved to other parts of South Carolina or Tennessee because of poverty or religious persecution within slavery times. However, some remained behind until after independence when they formed a group known as the Creeks who leased land near present-day Duckworth Island for farming purposes in 1819-20. In 1865, Confederate General Joseph Easley made his final stand at Cemetery Hill outside Jacksonburg before retreating across I-95 into North Carolina. days later he surrendered at Appomattox Court House leaving his army occupying much of Virginia including Goose Creek where many men became POWs orlafter Battle of Appomattox Court House
The first white settlers in Goose Creek were David and Ruth Henshaw, who arrived in 1820. The earliest record of a church being built in the area is from 1824. By 1830, the population of Goose Creek had grown to around seventy-five people. In 1850, a post office was established in Goose Creek and remained operational until 1865. The first school was also founded in Goose Creek in 1825. A sawmill was also constructed in Goose Creek during this time. By 1860, the population of Goose Creek had increased to one hundred people and by 1870 it had reached two hundred people. There were also several mills located within the community which produced goods such as flour, cottonseed oil, cheese, etcetera.
