In 1876, the club voted to adopt a Constitution and by 1880, they had organized into an official organization. Goose Creek is a town located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,484 at the 2010 census. It was established in 1826 as a post office by order of General Alexander Cumming. The name is derived from the nearby Gooseberry River. The first settler in Goose Creek was James Aiken who arrived in 1824 and named it for his friend and fellow officer, George Aiken. In 1830 John Gadsden built a cabin on the present site of Goose Creek Academy which he called "Gadson's Grove". He also founded an agricultural society and raised chickens there. In 1835 Isaac Shelby moved to Goose Creek from Chattanooga, Tennessee with his wife Sarah Wofford and their six children. They were the first white family to live in what would later become Spartanburg County. Isaac started a tannery here and also operated two stores which became known as the "Shelby Store" & "The Gadsden Store". By 1840 about 30% of all crops grown in Spartanburg County were raised here including corn, beans, cotton, hay and potatoes; this region was then known as the Corn Belt. In 1846 one of local farmers named Ebenezer Easley discovered oil shale near what is now called Easley Furniture Factory on US Highway 321 (now I-85). He leased land from Jeptha Broughton to drill for oil but due to high costs he abandoned the enterprise within a year or so; however some wells did prove successful yielding production until 1902 when production ceased due to depletion of resources caused by overpumping A new school house was built in 1860 at present day intersection of Church Street & Ninety Mile Road (later renamed West Boulevard) by parents Obediah Myles & Sarah Goodlett Sr.. Their daughter Lydia Myles donated $5 per month toward its construction which funded its completion 3 years later replacing an old log schoolhouse that had burned down earlier that year! The school house served as both primary and secondary education until 1916 when it was replaced by an addition which still stands today – original design included an auditorium/stage that could seat 150 people! This building served as homeport for many organizations such as churches, drama clubs, Odd Fellows Lodges etc.; it even hosted one season of American Idol back in 2002! In 1963 another addition – this time made out of concrete – became unnecessary when voters approved bond issues providing $2 million for expansion including more classrooms, athletic facilities etc.; this facility includes current day I-285 interchange between South Carolina State Route 221 (SR 21) & I-85 In 1923 “The Daily Journal” newspaper began publication based at what is now called Main Street where printing presses once resided In 1951 Hurricane Hugo smashed into South Carolina leaving extensive damage across most rural areas making life difficult especially within towns such as Goose Creek where most residents continued living under military occupation while goods were brought back inside courtesyof military shipments Aftermath saw numerous businesses close including those belonging to Obediah Myles who lost almost everything; however his widowSarah reestablished herself locally running several small businesses before she passed away in 1978 aged 94 years
The Goose Creek Plantation was a plantation in South Carolina. It was founded by Colonel John Woodruff in 1762. The plantation continued to be owned by Woodruff and his descendants until the early 20th century.
