Goose Creek is a town in Rock Hill County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,721 at the 2010 census. The town is situated on the banks of the Blackwater River and includes the villages of Asbury Park and Rahway. The first Europeans to reach what is now Goose Creek were early German settlers who named it Kettle Creek because of the water's proximity to their farmstead. In 1754, Englishman James Wade discovered a salt mine in what is now Rahway and decided to name the new settlement after this discovery. In 1758, John Cotesworth Pinckney purchased land east of Rahway from Nathaniel Bacon for £1000. pinckney named his new settlement after George Washington, who had just become President of America. In 1822, an act was passed by Congress that provided for a post office at Goose Creek Township which was established on December 12th of that year. The first postmaster was Benjamin Fenton who served until 1828 when he was replaced by Phebe Waddell Goodwin. In 1840, Isaac Gregg built a gristmill on the north side of Blackwater River which became one of South Carolina's earliest commercial centers providing flour and other goods to local farmers until it closed its doors in 1957. The first school in Goose Creek Township opened in 1834 with twelve students attending classes each day before being moved to Asbury Park two years later where they remained until 1949 when they were again relocated to Rahway where they remain today as part of South Carolina's education history According to the 2000 census there are 2,856 people living in Goose creek township including 1123 households

Goose Creek is located in Union County, South Carolina, and it was founded in 1796. The creek was named for the geese that frequent it. Goose Creek ran through what is now Goose Creek Township until 1801, when it became a part of Union County. It was during this time that the first mills were built in Goose Creek. In 1881, the county seat of Union County moved to Mocksville, and by 1920, Goose Creek had become an unincorporated community. The community experienced some economic decline during the 1930s, but again experienced growth in the 1990s and 2000s. Today, Goose Creek has a population of around 350 people and it is home to a number of businesses including a library and post office.
Gauley's Mill and its history can be traced back to 1819. The first mill was built by Captain George Gauley on the Goose Creek River, about two miles from present-day South Carolina. The mill was destroyed in a fire in 1829, but was rebuilt and continued operations until 1862. It had both spinning mills and weavers' looms. The mill produced cloth for export and also furnished goods to local homes. In 1865, the mill passed through ownership several times before it came into the hands of the current owner, Mr. Kittleman, in 1911. Mr. Kittleman operated the mill until it closed in 1978 due to problems with water logging and other factors. The mill building still stands today as a historical reminder of this early phase of Goose Creek's history.
