In 1892, two companies of Confederate soldiers from Easley took part in the Battle of Fort Sumter. One company was led by General James Longstreet and the other by Colonel John W. McAllister. Easley is a small town in the U.S. state of South Carolina, located just outside of Greenville. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. Easley is one of the most rural areas in South Carolina and is home to many poultry farms and golf courses that support the local economy. The town was founded by white settlers in 1835 on a tract of land that had been donated by John Cane surveyor James Easley after he discovered it while surveying nearby Greenwood County. The name "Easley" derives from early Welsh settlers who named their place "Abergavenny." In 1876, Atherton Plantation, an estate belonging to cotton magnate James Buchanan Grant, was purchased by his son-in-law William Fenton Pemberton. Pemberton renamed it Wofford Plantation after his maternal uncle general Eleazer Wofford and his wife Sarah Randolph Churchill – daughter of British Prime Minister David Lloyd George – making Easley one of the few American towns given its own nameakes since independence. In 1886, Wofford Plantation passed away and its lands were divided among several heirs before becoming part of Laurence Meek's Pemberton Tobacco Company plantation complex known as Park Place (later Laurence Meek Tobacco Company). One family member left an estate called Eagleton which became associated with Easley when attorney General Winthrop Sargent bought it in 1922 for $10 million dollars during the Great Depression as part of a program to modernize southern agriculture under President Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal policies. In 1951, Eagleton Estate passed from ownership to Tillman & Son Incorporated (Tillman) until it was acquired by Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation in 1984; this property now forms part of Clemson University's Clemson Agricultural College campus. As one result of ZIP code 30836 being included within Greenville County since 1974–75 as part of moves towards suburbanification within Charleston County,[2] much development has occurred around Easley over the years including: filling up or expanding numerous ponds which house green eggs for hogs; building dozens if not hundreds new homes throughout town; creating more than twenty businesses such as pharmacies and restaurants along with two schools namely Eastern Christian School (opened in 1925), now known as Stoney Creek Elementary School[3] and Jones High School[4]; adding more than three dozen streetlights throughout town providing increased lighting at night time for motorists exiting onto Jackson Road from US 421; widening Jackson Road southward beyond where it currently ends at US 421 approximately five miles east from downtown into what is today known as Oakhurst Drive; working on completing a comprehensive master plan for town which will include all aspects related to transportation, public use spaces, commercial properties etc.; addition both new business districts (known today as Olde Towne Center/Olde Hickory District) near downtown along Jackson Road between State Highway 158/Piney Hill Avenue [5], just east off HWY 422 southbound toward Interstate 95 [6]; newly constructed athletic fields adjacent to Kirtland Baptist Church Cemetery[7]; construction ongoing on a brand new high school - presently known as Clarendon High School - across city streets from busy First Street Shopping Center across SR 158 just northwest off I-95 exit #2

Easley is a small town in South Carolina, United States. It is located on the Greenville-Richmond County line and was named after Colonel John Easley, who helped found the town in 1814. The population was 4,291 at the 2010 census. The town's first settlement took place on May 8, 1814, when Colonel John Easley and his men discovered a rich coal field in what is now part of downtown Easley. Mining commenced immediately and by 1820, the town had developed into a busy center for coal mining and other businesses. In 1824, General Andrew Jackson invaded South Carolina to suppress slave revolts and he pillaged many towns along his route. When he reached Easley, he ordered its residents to leave or be burned alive. This event became known as "The Burning of Easley." In 1870, the Charleston & Western Railway (later CSX) built a new line from Columbia to Greenwood which passed through parts of present-day eastern South Carolina. The railroad stimulated growth in eastern South Carolina and made Easley an important transportation hub for goods brought upstate from plantations downriver. In 1915, Northrop Grumman Corporation founded its headquarters in nearby Spartanburg while also expanding operations at Clemson University; both activities generated significant economic development in the area around Easley proper throughout the later 20th century. As commercial activity shifted away from coalmining during the 1970s and 1980s – due to rising competition from cheaper natural gas – east county slowly lost much of its manufacturing base while west county experienced more rapid economic growth over recent decades based principally on services such as healthcare and retail trade (particularly within downtown). However, heavy industry has resumed modestly since 2000 with expansions at two major industrial complexes: Alcoa Aluminum Processing Plant (formerly Catawba Coalmines) north of downtownEasley proper (the largest aluminum manufacturer outside China) and Tyson Foods Inc.'s Tyson Foods Research Center south of downtown near Interstate 85 . These developments have created sizable concentrations of jobs across several core businesses including defense contractor Raytheon Co., Tyson Foods' parent company; apparel retailer JCPenney; home builder Lennar Homes; restaurant provider Long’Sleeve Sports Grill; tobacco product manufacturer RJR Nabisco Inc.; publishing house Houghton Mifflin Harcourt LLP; trucking company FedEx Corp.; grocery store operator Kroger Co.; among others
