Easley is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,793 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first known European settlers in Easley were three families from Scotland who came to the area in 1814. They built a log cabin on an Island in the Oconee River and named it "Easley". In 1828, James Fenton bought land near present day Easley and began to build a sawmill and gristmill. In 1830 he also built a house which he called "Fenton's House". In 1836 Jno. Witherspoon purchased land east of present day Easley from Fenton for $4,000 and started building what would become known as Witherspoon's plantation. He named it "Witherspoon's Plantation". In 1840 two men by the name of Coker and Hammond laid out a town on some property east of present day Easley which they named "Coker's Town." When this town failed to take off, they relocated their business to nearby Greenville where it continued until 1865 when it was destroyed by fire. After Greenville became visible as an agricultural center due to its production of cotton, new interests developed in Coker's Town including brickmaking and lumbering which led to its reestablishment as an incorporated town in 1886 with unique boundaries that remain today; including parts of eastern Spartanburg County not found within any other municipality or county seat

It is part of the Columbia, South Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. Easley has been a center of cotton production since before the American Civil War. The town's economy now consists largely of services and light manufacturing. Easley was founded by white settlers in 1802 as "Stroudsville." It was renamed for James Everett Easley, an early settler who had come to what is now Stroudsburg in 1795 from Northumberland County, England with his family. In 1828, Jesse Willcox organized a township here and named it for himself; this became Easley Township on March 3, 1832. On January 1st 1861, its name changed to Easley County when it was created from portions of Wilkesboro and Union counties. The first courthouse in the county seat was built on Main Street (now Davis Boulevard) in 1849-50 by Jethro Tilton Peake II., an early settler and surveyor who had also helped organize Cherokee Nation into a government under one head after they were forced out of their ancestral land near Charleston by General Andrew Jackson's Ulysses S. Grant Expedition during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). That courthouse burned down in 1865 but replaced by another building soon afterward which still stands today on Main Street between Court Square and Park Avenue according to historical records. Easley, South Carolina is a city in Pickens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 6,890 at the 2010 census. Easley was founded on November 9, 1837 by James Robertson and J.D. Byrnes as a small settlement on the Natchez Trace Railroad. The town grew rapidly due to its location along the railroad and its easy access to boats that transported goods from nearby Jacksonville and Greenville to market. In 1849, the Easley Manufacturing Company was founded by prosperous cotton farmer Wm. Loyd Easley with help from General Samuel Johnston of the Confederate army during the American Civil War. The company produced locomotives and other transportation equipment for local farmers and helped build up South Carolina's economy during Reconstruction after the war. The city reached its peak in population around 1930 when it had 11,000 residents; however, following World War II there were drops in population until 1990 when it reached 6,890 people again
