Easley, South Carolina is a small town located in the state of South Carolina. The population was 1,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Easley's ZIP code is 29017. The history of Easley can be traced back to 1821 when it was known as "Oconee". The town was named for General Robert Easley who served as Governor of South Carolina from 1827-1829 and again from 1835-1837. In 1830, Oconee County was created and Easley became its county seat. In 1851, Benjamin Fenton purchased land in what is now downtown Easley from the estate of Colonel John Buncombe and renamed it "Fenton Place". He donated the land to the town for use as a public square and street grid. In 1865, Aiken County was created and Easley became its county seat; however, by 1870, all but one ward had been taken away from Oconee County so that Beaufort could become its new county seat with primary responsibility for education within Aiken County (which would grow into modern North Charleston). By 1880, most of what is now downtown Easley had been built including stores, churches, schools and a Masonic lodge (the first in southcentral SC). By 1924 there were only three residents living in downtown: storekeepers Mr. Wimsatt & Mrs. Laddsinger; Mr. Gentry & his wife; and JN Whitehead & his wife who ran an automobile dealership out of their home on Meeting Street between Third Street and Fourth Street until their death in 1951 (). The last resident died in 1961(). Most activities associated with early 21st century Downton Abbey took place off-site or on weekends outside the city limits during this time without any municipal government involvement save occasional hiring/ firing of staff by storekeepers which led to some confusion about whose property did what (). Today there are no businesses remaining standing aside from several large apartment buildings overlooking Meeting Street which have been redeveloped into mixeduse properties (). The following year Old Hwy 412 was reconstructed around milepost 24 on US 421 after being destroyed by Hurricane Hugo while also reconstructing main streets around Lowndes Bridge including HWY 72 which crossed over lowndes River just west side old bridge

Easley, South Carolina is a small town in the state of South Carolina. The population was 2,442 at the 2010 census. It is located in Pickens County. Easley began as an Indian village on the banks of the Elizabeth River in 1765. The first white settlers arrived in 1786, when Daniel Boone and his party crossed over from North Carolina to settle what is now Easley. In 1811, Easley became part of Union County when it was created from portions of Spartanburg and Union counties. In 1827, a group of Methodist missionaries founded a mission station in Easley and served until 1830. A second mission station was established here in 1837 by Reverend Cornelius Hodge and continued to serve until 1840. The first school for black students was established here in 1865; it closed six years later due to violence between whites and slaves who were using it as a training ground for future rebels against slavery laws. In 1868, the trustees of Clemson University bought land adjoining that of Fayetteville School for Negroes to build a new school which opened its doors September 9th, 1870 with 125 students; this school closed October 1st, 1969 due to budgetary cuts made by then Governor Roy Cooper following the end of apartheid South Africa). A branch courthouse also stood on site until 1954 when it burned down within months following arson by students at Clemson University's main campus near downtown Clemson after graffiti vandalism there had become associated with black student protests against segregation oncampus during that year's "All-American Day" festivities (the event annually celebrates American education achievements among high school seniors across all races). In 1948, Ebenezer Bogue donated land including three houses on which Easley Main Street now stands just north of Interstate 95 southbound exit #412 (U S Highway 24) leading into Columbia SC)
Easley was founded in 1824 by John Easley, a planter and slaveholder. The town grew rapidly, and by 1830 it had a population of over 100 people. In the 1850s, Easley became an important cotton port on the southeastern coast of South Carolina. The town experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century as plantations were converted todry land and new industry developed in the area. By 1920, Easley had a population of over 2,000 people. During World War II, Easley played an important role as a munitions production center for the South Carolina coastline.
