Easley is a town in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,402 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Columbia metropolitan area. It is located on the Easley River near its confluence with the Ashley River. The Easley Post Office was established in 1851 and discontinued operations in 1934. Easley was platted on July 4, 1871 by Jepson Clements, who named it after his friend and predecessor as postmaster general of South Carolina Ebenezer A. Easley (1786-1862). A railroad station was built there by the Charleston and Augusta Railroad in 1889; it closed in 1951. Easley had a small aluminum plant until 2003 when it closed due to economic hardship caused by global trade disruptions during the George W. Bush presidency and Hurricane Katrina. The plant reopened as an Alcoa aluminum smelter starting April 5, 2006 but ceased operations June 30, 2016 due to environmental concerns about lead and arsenic found in alumina from old plants around the world that have not been cleaned up since then In May 2017 local officials announced that they were going to start demolition of nine homes which sat on land idyllically situated along Ashley River just upstream from Alcoa's smelter site because of concerns about how those homes might be affected if Alcoa closed down its operation there

The M4A1 Carbine was designed as an assault rifle that could fires heavy rounds at range with little recoil. The gun was eventually accepted into service by both NATO and United States Marine Corps in 1951. In 1956, Colt Defense Corporation submitted their own proposal for a new semiautomatic rifle using an innovative gas piston system known as the "Manned Maneuvering Unit." This system allowed Marines to fire weapons without having to remove their helmet or other gear. In 1960, Colt Firearms submitted their submission for a new version of the AR-10 calledthe Colt AR-10 A2 which featured newly developed barrel technology and forward assist system which made it easier for Marines to fire while wearing helmets or other protective gear. However, this gun never received any commercialization due to prohibitive costs associated with development/production/marketability of such a large weapon (estimated at $250 million). Nevertheless, this project showed how versatile and reliable an archery platform could be when adapted for uses onensenational battlefields where accuracy was key (e.g., infantry deployments). In 1968, Winchester Ammunition Company submitted their submission for a redesigned .308 Winchester cartridge known as "M110". This cartridge incorporated advanced ballistics that gave it greater firepower than earlier versions making it more suitable for anti personnel roles on future battlefields (e.g., Vietnam War). However, this Submission did not receive any commercialization until after World War II ended in 1945 when surplus ammunition became available from America's allies around the world (estimated at $25 billion). Consequently Marlin Firearms invented their own 308 Winchester Rifle which they christened "Marlin Model 336" in 1957; however this rifle never saw widespread production because heftier prices prevented its mass production until now(estimated at $3 billion)
