Cayce is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,544 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia metropolitan area. The Cayce community began as a small farming village in 1853 on the east side of Cayce Creek west of present-day town. In 1870 an act to grant township status and create a courthouse was passed by the General Assembly and Cayce became a community under that name. On July 4, 1906, the first post office in Cayce opened with mail from Greenville via Greenville Springs and Kershaw Ferry. In 1928, The Coca-Cola Company established its main bottling plant there which continues to operate today as Coke Bottling Plant #1 (CBP#1). As early as 1911, white men had been working for The Coca-Cola Company in what became known as "the Negro Camp" on land leased from Mr. Pritchett; this camp eventually totaled over 100 acres (40 ha). By 1923 it had grown into what is now known as "The Negro Camp". White men still worked in various positions including foremen and truck drivers for the black workers who produced most of Coca-Cola's goods until 1947 when all white employees were moved to new facilities within Spartanburg County limits near Chapin Hall. Today only about 10% of Coca Cola's products are made here in Spartanburg county while 90% are made elsewhere within SC

Cayce is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,721 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1868 by John and Sarah Cayce. The Cayces were the first white settlers in the area. Cayce is named after George Washington Carver. The town lies on the Savannah River, about north of the city of Spartanburg on I-95/US 9 Alternate which connects to Savannah, Georgia four miles (6 km) away. According to legend, when General Robert Ewell's Confederate army destroyed Fort Sumter in April 1861 during the American Civil War, General Custer ordered his cavalry troopers to break into Cayce and plunder its citizens for food and supplies they could use as reinforcements against Union forces advancing from North Carolina through south Georgia. This event is commemorated by a small granite monument located east of town that reads "In Memory of Robert Ewell’s Cavalrymen Who Poured Their Blood In aid Of Our Country." The town began as a grant from Colonel James Johnston to wealthy landowner Wofford Soddy in 1868 following Johnston's victory over an invading Creek Indian force at Battle of Horseshoe Bend near present-day downtown Spartanburg. With only 350 residents living in what is now Cayce at the time it had no hotel or other public services available; however within five years construction began on what would become one of America's first large commercially successful cotton plantations: Wofford Soddy & Company's Lower Town Plantation (later known as Old Main Plantation). At its peak production around 1880–1890 Lowertown produced more than 2 million pounds (1 tonne) of cotton per acre; this led to increased development across much of neighboring Lowndes County and made possible nearby transportation improvements such as roadbuilding and railroads. By 1900 Lowertown had become one of America's most important slave-based cotton plantations with 5,000 slaves working over 1 mile (1 km) wide strips with average yield approaching 50 bushels per acre under direct hiring systems operated by overseers rather than traditional tribal slavery techniques where families rotated crops each year
