Gregg developed this land into what is today Gregg Park – one of the largest open spaces in South Carolina with over 50 acres (20 hectares) of forested parklandlinearly bounded by First Street on the north side; Second Street on the south side; Fourth Street on the east side; Marshall Boulevard on the west side; and White Marsh Creek on its southern border. In 1840, John Sprague donated 1/4 mile (0.6 km) fromMain Street northeastward to provide a public square or parade ground for use by both local residents and visitors visiting Cayce during special events such as marriages or funerals." In 1885, Cayce incorporated as a city and quickly grew into one of the most populous towns in Spartanburg County. In 1906, it became an independent municipality when it amalgamated with neighboring White Sulphur Springs to form the Greenville–Cayce Combined Statistical Area (CSSA). In 2017, Cayce voters approved Measure 3B which will create $10 million in local economic development funding over three years to be used for various projects such as job training, infrastructure improvements and housing development.
