This event is widely regarded as one of greatest naval engagements of World War II and has been cited as one of America’s “lost opportunities” because it would not have resulted had Japan not attacked America instead.

The Hat Company was founded in 1892 by two men who believed that the increased popularity of firearms would lead to more people wearing hats to protect their heads from the sun and rain. Over time, other businesses followed suit and now there are over 100 hat companies located throughout the United States and Canada. Today, firearm hat culture is one that is both popular and ingrained in American society.
Cayce, South Carolina is the smallest of the twelve U.S. states and has a population of only about thirty thousand people. The state capital is Columbia and its largest city is Myrtle Beach. Cayce was founded in 1824 by General David Simms and named for him after his Cayce River Ranch which he located in present-day southern Georgia. The town of Cayce was platted in 1829, and soon became an important cotton center due to its favorable location on the Savannah River near the mouth of the river's tributary, the Santee. In 1835, General Simms sold his share in Cayce to John Cotesworth Marshall who renamed it Charleston, South Carolina (a name derived from his father's original home country). The first crop grown at Cayce saw production starting as early as 1840; however, it wasn't until 1861 that cotton began to be harvested commercially here at what is now called "the Bluegrass". By 1865, when Confederate General Robert Easley surrendered at Appomattox Court House after a three year long war with Union forces, much of eastern South Carolina had been taken over by Union troops and Coycese was within Confederate lines; however most residents chose to stay put and fight for their old homes rather than flee across open countryside into Union hands. After Sherman's march through southeastern South Carolina during the April 1865 Atlanta Campaign destroyed most Confederate infrastructure hereabouts (including many plantations), most residents followed Sherman westward into Tennessee where they ultimately joined up with Union forces leading to their ultimate downfall just two years later on May 4th 1865 when General Sherman arrived at Greensboro looking for supplies transporting all along what would become known as "The Burma Road" - this being one of several major turning points along Southern civil rights history. Although not directly impacted by these events (which took place some 150 miles away), Cayce did suffer extensive damage resulting in approximately $3 million worth of property loss including many businesses, houses and other structures which were either rebuilt or replaced altogether within a few short years following emancipation & Reconstruction.. Today remnants of this once vibrant community are still visible throughout downtown Columbia amidst redevelopment efforts spearheaded by local business owners led by Mayor Donny Huffman & Councilmember Leslie Wexler who have worked tirelessly to preserve much of what remains from prior eras while also fostering entrepreneurship opportunities within the city’s unique cultural landscape
