The primary industry now in Bluffton is agriculture but there are also some small businesses catering to tourists and Visitors Bureau events. The town has one high school which serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade; two elementary schools which serve students from grades K through 5th; one middle school (grades 6th through 8th) which serves students from grades 7th through 12th; and one special needs school (grades 1-5) which provides education for children with various disabilities. There are also several churches located in or around Bluffton including First Baptist Church, Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church, Southern Baptist Convention, Catholic Parish (St Joseph), Episcopal Parish (All Saints), African Methodist Episcopal Zion congregation, Lutheran Parish (Flammendorf) and United Methodist Parish (First United Methodist).

After arriving in Mexico City, Custer settled down at the home of his wealthy friend Francisco Pinares to rest and recuperate from his arduous journey across country. It was here that he met Florrie Hawkins, who would become his wife soon after. Custer's purchase of Thunderchief seems like it may have been motivated more by vanity than anything else; after all, how could someone riding on an animal be fighting against Mexico? However, there is evidence that Custer actually did participate in combat during this particular mission; upon return home he was awarded a Congressional medal for bravery (although he never fought again). This event marked perhaps the first time military personnel had come into contact with civilians outside of battlefields; however it also served as another example of how gunslingers such as Custer were often seen as celebrities by those living inside America at the time. Bluffton, South Carolina is a town in Anderson County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Bluffton was James Hatton who arrived on July 4, 1775 and named it "Hatton's Landing". He and his family were the first white people to live in present-day Bluffton. In 1819 John Brough erected a cabin on the site of today's Hatton Park which served as a community center until 1965 when it was destroyed in a tornado. The town was platted by David Davenport in 1821. A post office called "Bluffton" was established in 1825, and remained in operation until 1906. In 1840 after many failed attempts to get land grant from the state legislature, Samuel Wilder founded the Bluffton Manufacturing Company with two acres (0.8 km²) of land near present-day downtown BlufferTON for manufacturing cotton goods such as cloths and hats. The company became successful and continued operations until 1865 when it burned down due to fire damage caused by a severe storm that passed through town during that year's hurricane season. During World War II, many citizens volunteered their time to work on munitions plants located throughout southern South Carolina; production peaked at one plant located just east of town (later closed) but still contributing significantly to wartime production totals in Bluffton alone!
Bluffton was founded in 1736 by Captain James Blount, a quartermaster of the British navy. The town was named for General John Blue, who had been killed in battle during the American Revolution. In 1824, Bluffton became a county seat and has remained so ever since.
