Ammunition has a long and varied history in Aiken, South Carolina. The town was founded in 1821 by Cotton Planter J.D. Brown, who named it for his uncle, Alfred Aiken. Ammunition production began in the early 1800s when farmers developed the technology to produce shot and shell casings from hardwood logs. By 1851, Aiken had become one of the leading ammunition manufacturing towns in the United States. Aiken’s first industry was artillery ammunition production, which began during the American Revolution to provide rounds for British cannons. Over time, other industries have sprung up in Aiken: plastics and automotive parts; health care services; two casinos; and a number of small businesses such as mechanics and grocery stores. Today, Aiken is home to more than 100 businesses that produce ammunition, firearms accessories, fireworks products, or food items for export around the world. The history of ammunition can be traced back to many different sources including Native Americans who used arrowheads and spears as projectiles dating back centuries ago; European settlers who discovered lead bullets while exploring America’s west in the late 1700s; African slaves brought over with English colonists during 16th century Voyages of Discovery; Confederate soldiers during Reconstruction period who needed artillery rounds to fight against Union forces; and local manufacturers starting in the early 1900s who produced both live rounds (firearms round) and armor-piercing rounds (more powerful shots that pass through solid objects). In recent decades, advancements have been made in manufacturing processes such as hydroforming – a process that creates molds out of plastic pellets – which allows for multiple types of projectile shapes (bullets with seeds inside them), improved accuracy standards for projectiles consistency across various brands/types (e.g., 7mm Remington Magnum vs 5mm NATO), increased capacity for propellants (increased air pressure inside cartridge cases), innovative manufacturing processes like 3-D printing technology which allows components such as bullets and shells to be designed on-demand without having to go through traditional molding techniques), and new technologies like MEMS lithography which makes it possible to print details onto Bullets at high resolution without any need for standard metal casting methods

Aiken is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 11,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the larger Columbia metropolitan area. Aiken is bordered to the northeast by Greenville and to the south by Anderson. The town's history dates back to 1842 when James Aiken founded a trading post on what is now I-20 near present-day downtown Aiken. By 1851, Aiken had grown enough that it incorporated as a town and named its first mayor Colonel John C. Browning. In 1865, Aiken became the capital of Confederate South Carolina after Charleston was burned; for much of this period, it functioned as the state capital as well. In 1980, Aiken voters passed an ordinance establishing an independent school system which has since been upheld by courts numerous times (most recently in 2006). The system still exists today with over 350 students in grades pre-K through 12th grade living within walking distance of one or more schools serving their needs including elementary schools (grades Pre-K through 6), middle schools (7th through 12th grades), high schools (13th through 16th grades), and adult learning centers/counselorships.
