In 1827-1828 John France sold his interest in the French Hill Arsenal to George Washington Clinton for $5200+. After George Washington Clinton's death in 1830, ownership passed through several hands before it eventually came into the hands of Samuel Colt who founded Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company on December 5th 1836 in Hartford Connecticut USA The development of modern firearms has had a significant impact on rifle stocks history in Rhode Island . Rifle stocks became more important during wartime due to their ability to destroy enemy artillery batteries or troop encampments without being hit themselves .
