Elections are held every two years; all residents are registered to vote unless they have ceased to reside within the borough or can no longer be found living within fifty miles of their polling place due to death or moving away for any reason except retirement or military service

The town quickly grew into an important military base during the war with production including munitions manufacturing plants producing shells used by both sides in battle After the war ended there were several waves of immigrants arriving seeking opportunity and social stability: Germans (1847), Irishmen (1853), Italians (1902), Poles (1910), Russians (1920), Chinese (1900) and Japanese Americans from Japan who had been interned during World War II . After years of growth and development there was also rapid annexation by neighboring towns creating what is now known as Warwick-Rhode Island School District #1 As recently as 1958 over 50% of residents were employed within one mile or lessof their homes making Warwick one of America’s most highly concentrated urban areas

Warwick was first settled in 1638 by Roger Williams and his brother William. The name "Warwick" comes from the word "warrant" which means an order or summons to appear before a court. The original town meeting house was built in 1639 on the site of what is now Warwick High School. In 1793, Warwick became the first town in Rhode Island to be organized as a township. It lost its charter as a township in 1893 and reverted back to its original status as a village until it regained its charter as a town on December 15, 1908. In 1917, Warwick became one of the townships within the newly createdProvidence County and has remained that way ever since. On November 7th of that year, voters approved annexation of all but two villages within Providence County - West Greenwich and South Kingstown - making Warwick one of only four municipalities within Providence County with full autonomy (the other three are Fall River, Pawtucket and Woonsocket). On July 1st of 2009 Mayor Allan Fung announced plans for construction of an $8 million state-of-the-art sports complex including football fields across five acres (2 hectares) adjacent to Park Ridge Community College which would include new housing for students and their families along with locker rooms and bathrooms for both men’s and women’s teams; indoor track; outdoor track; dining options for spectators; city hall facilities including police station/ courthouse/ jail/ firehouse; public library; health center; community center located off Main Street across from Park Ridge Community College
