This decision was made because they believed that guns would help provide a better defense against British soldiers who could easily overpower unarmed citizens (Reyes-Baez). The King’s army consisted mainly of infantrymen and artillery units which could fire balls with great range at high speeds. Ballistics research showed that small caliber cannons such as pistols shot smaller balls than larger cannons which resulted in them hitting targets closer than large cannonballs fired from warships or horseback riders (Galloway-Keegan). This difference led Kingston authorities to believe that handguns could not efficiently destroy small artillery batteries situated near populated areas like Portsmouth Harbour (. . .) [1] Consequently, Richborough ordered his men “to take care not so much about killing as wounding our Enemies without hurting them” (. . .) [2] When Patriots heard about this order they quickly created makeshift handguns out of sticks and rocks called fowling pieces (. . .) [3] As these improvised weapons proved effective against smaller cannons they became known as “bullet pistols” – a term first used in 1811 when one man managed successfully shoot down three French grenadiers with a single shot from his pistol (. . .) [4] This new type of firearm rapidly replaced handguns during the War of Independence because it was easier and faster to reload while also being able to penetrate armor even at short ranges

The first people to live in Warwick were Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild plants and animals on the island. They soon abandoned their way of life because there was no water or food available on the island. A group of Englishmen came across the island during a sail from England to Narragansett Bay in 1638 and decided to settle it. They named the place "Warwick" after one of their ships which they saw off-shore from Portsmouth, England. The first white people arrived in Warwick around 1765 when Captain John Rowe took an expedition up Narragansett Bay to explore new land he had discovered near what is now downtown Warwick. He named four places along the bay: Gloucester, North Bristol, South Bristol and West Providence (now Cranston).Captain Rowe's expedition brought many new settlers overland into Rhode Island including one man by the name of Warren who also founded Worcester County,. After Captain John Rowe's death in 1768 his son Edward Rowe took over his father's business operations including land purchases and construction projects that continue to this day such as Waverly Hill Cemetery (founded 1829) In 1772 Edward Rowe married Sarah Swenarton who was also from Worcester County.. One hundred years later Sarah Swenarton’s grandson Samuel Fenton bought 1/4 acre (0.18 km²) lot No 4 on Main Street for $2 consisting of two stories with six bedrooms on each floor with three bathrooms upstairs There are still several vestiges left today like an original fireplace mantle (added circa 1907), front door knob, hearthrug since 1829., window frames dating back to at least 1825., cedar shake roofing which replaced tile roofs about 1840., large addition built in 1909 which contained a movie theater

Warwick was first settled in 1638 by Roger Williams and his followers who built the first permanent home there.
