The first air traffic control tower was built here – cornerstone laid on September 3rd 1929 – which remains operational today as Tower A at I-95/I-90 interchange. During its long history Tower A has been used for such diverse purposes as weather observation, radar calibration and emergency landing assistance; it has also become home to local radio station WDZH (AM) – first licensed here on November 5th 1949 – making it one of only two commercial FM stations in Rhode Island continuously operating beyond consolidation date! In 1984 when Interstate 95 was extended from Pawtucket to Warwick via I-295/I-90 juncture we rechristened this junction "Providence Boulevard" following our city's longstanding dedication to civic engagement through various programs like streetlights being turned off at night during cold spells so that drivers know where they are within their city limits; however because I-495 runs concurrently along both freeways we reverted back to "Providence Boulevard" after just over 20 years once again highlighting our city's proud past while modernizing our infrastructure for 21st century needs.
