In 1851, a man named Nicholas Fludd started manufacturing rifles and pistols in Pawtucket. He continued to do this until his death in 1906. The town's first gunsmith, Ebenezer Howland, also manufactured firearms. he died in 1892. In 1923, a man named Harvey Crouch purchased a machine shop near the corner of John Fenton Avenue and King Street from Wm. Halsey & Sons Limited. He began manufacturing airguns there until his death in 1959. His son-in-law Otto Kern founded Kern Air Guns Company in 1960 and continued Manufacturing airguns until 1988 when it merged with Browning Arms Corporation to form Browning-Kern Air Guns Incorporated (BKA). BKA was then sold to Maytag Corporation in 1990 which renamed it Maytag/Browning Airgun Company LLC (MBA) effective February 1st 1991). On July 1st 1997 MBA changed its name back to Browning-MaytagAirgunCompany LLC (BMA). At present, BMA is the oldest producer of quality Target Airguns products on the East Coast of America
