The first scope mounts in East Providence, Rhode Island were made by Julius and Ethel Kapp. They manufactured scopes for the American Rifle Association (ARPA) from 1916 to 1917. In 1923, the American Optics Company was founded in East Providence. Their scopes became known as "East Providence" scopes. The company continued to produce scopes until 1984 when they moved their factory to Albany, New York. In 1996, a new company called SSI bought the American Optics Company assets and started producing scope mounts under the name SSI Mounts.

In 1827-29, Revs Jno.[?] Phelps and James Gilbert preached at what is now Christ Episcopal Church on King Street between West Market and Edward Street; this church later housed the state capitol until it moved to its current location in 1911 across the street from Brown University after that school's merger with Harvard University

East Providence, Rhode Island is a town in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 24,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Providence–Fallon–West Warwick metropolitan area. The town was first settled by English colonists in 1636 and then founded as East Providence Plantation on land that had been claimed by Roger Williams. After the American Revolution, it was part of the Confederation of United States. In 1814, it became a parish within the new Diocese of Pawtucket and remained so until 1959 when it became an independent parish within the current Diocese of Rhode Island. In 1903, a Methodist church was built on Main Street and dedicated to John Wesley and his wife Dorothy Graydon Wesley. In 1957, East Providence School District #1 merged with other school districts in Rhode Island to form the Pawtucket School District #2 which still operates today as one of two public schools in East Providence (the other being Brown University). A post office operated in East Providence from 1795 to 1865; its present name is Pawtucket Post Office Park. The only street name beginning with "E" (eastern) is Main Street which runs through downtown while "W" (west) streets run northwest-southeast along Waterfront Drive and terminate at State Road 97 just east of Asbury Park Avenue/Route 1 exit 8 off Interstate 70 exit 9B). There are also some smaller streets starting with "S" such as Sherman Street between Asbury Park Avenue and Route 1 Exit 8 off Interstate 70 exits 9A & 9B), Indian River Avenue between Routes 2 & 3 southbound near I- 195's interchange), South Shore Boulevard between Routes 2 & 3 northbound near I-195's interchange), Court Square Drive between Routes 2 & 3 southbound near I-195's interchange)
