Additionally there are several dozen amateur athletes who compete in various sports events held throughout the year both indoors (Softball League) as well as outdoors at various venues such as Lincoln Park Zoo which has an indoor softball field specifically made for softball players(the largest combined surface area in Rhode Island), Pawtucket Aquarium where kids can go to play water toys while parents take them for admission(a must do activity for anyone visiting this facility!), numerous parks nearby including Killian Woods Preserve with miles of hiking trails perfect for families with children or those who want to escape city life for awhile - all within walking distance!

The first European to visit East Providence was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. He named it "Providence" after his hometown of Provincia, Italy. In 1636, Samuel Adams moved from Ipswich to start a new business in East Providence and named it "Adams & Sons". The first store on Water Street opened on July 4, 1795 by John Adams and his brother Samuel Adams Jr. There were six stores in the town before 1800 when the first steamboat arrived from Worcesterport and began service between Pawtucket and Kingston. By 1800 there were 24 businesses in East Providence with a population of 1,600+. In 1892, Fenton Sword Company founded what is now known as Eastern State Bank which was one of the first commercial banks in Rhode Island. The company predates both Brown University and URI by over 100 years! In 1903 they merged with National City Bank which became Eastern State Bank (N/A) when National City failed during the Panic of 1907). On December 14th 1912 Eastern States Bankshares Trust Company organized with $1 million capitalization providing an additional layer of safety against bank failures throughout Rhode Island; this deposit insurance program continues to this day! On November 6th 1924 East Providence suffered its most grievous loss when two torpedoes sunk the SS Empire Builder off its eastern coast just south of Indian Rocks beach leaving 265 dead including many local residents who had gathered to watch moored ships approach shore for sea trials that week. This bombing also destroyed much property within town center including several churches as well as businesses such as A&P grocery store and hardware store – all while people were attending services inside those structures! The blast also did extensive damage to homes located upwind from where torpedoes had struck causing some very serious damage including windowsills being 12” deep! The following year saw another significant event when King George V visited Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard for their annual New England Naval Exhibition; he inspected USS Quincy (CV-2) which was built at Newport News Shipbuilding Corporation adjacent to US Naval Air Station Lynnhaven – making it one of only two ocean going warships ever made by that company! On October 7th 1957 Eastern States Bankshares Trust Company purchased 95% ownership in Rhode Island Power Authority from American Electric Power Company effective January 1st 1958 through September 30th 1958 inclusive; this purchase included 500 MW installed generating capacity sufficient for approximately 350,000 average residential customers each month utilizing natural gas supplied by RI Power Authority until 1963when coal burning ceased abruptly due to environmental concerns associated with nearby Mineola mine!!Following enactment of statehood laws on March 25th 1959 RIPower Authority became an independent public utility!!!During its history RIPower Authority has completed more than 630 construction projects totaling nearly $11 billion dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!
