The fall is named after John Winthrop, who first sighted it while exploring southward along the bay in 1636. In 1725, Colonel Nicholas Easton built a wharf here for shipping goods upriver to Newport and Boston. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s as new mills were built along the river and by 1930 it had reached its peak with a population of 19,814. However, during World War II Central Falls became an important Allied airfield with over 100 buildings used for military purposes. After the war ended in 1945 many people left Central Fall behind and it declined until it peaked again in 2000 with 11,575 residents. Today Central Falls has begun to rebound with growth in industries such as health care and tourism which have brought more people here to live and work than ever before. The town also contains several attractions that are popular among visitors including Park Avenue Market Place where you can buy fresh produce or take advantage of their gift shops; Healy Park which offers panoramic views of both Narragansett Bay and Warwick; as well as several restaurants including Joe's Pizzaand two bowling alleys- one opened in 2006 by former Suffolk County executive Joseph Bruno (now Mayor) Central Falls also remains an important community hub for local businesses that serve central Rhode Island’s diverse population including banks (four), real estate firms (six), law enforcement services (one), manufacturing companies (three) And despite its diminutive size it boasts a variety of cultural events year-round from arts festivals to pancake breakfast contests

Central Falls, Rhode Island is a small town located in Providence County, Rhode Island. The population was 5,391 at the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1792 by fishermen and their families who set up a fishing village on the banks of the river called Westville. In 1837, Central Falls became part of Pawtucket County when that county was created from parts of Providence and Warwick counties. Central Falls has experienced many changes over its centuries but its history remains deeply rooted in the fishing industry which still plays a major role in its economy today. Central Falls is named after two important figures: George Washington Keyes and Captain John Smith. As early as 1792, Captain John Smith explored what would become Central Falls and named it for General George Washington Keyes he had met while serving with British forces during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). Afterward, General Keyes donated land to the town for development which included his house known as "The White House." The first settler in Central Falls was Abram Snook who arrived in 1793. Snook built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. By 1800, there were only 10 residents living in Central Fallswoods although some people lived out season near those fishing villages on the riverbanks. By 1837, when Pawtucket County was formed from parts of Providence and Warwick counties, most of present-day central fallstown lay within that new county boundary - making it one of only a handful places where rural residents could still see their own parish courthouse from their backyards! In 1847-48 when local citizens voted to incorporate as a Village they came up with an original name - "Westville". When Westville failed to gain government funding to keep operating following financial issues brought about by war efforts (FY1849-50), citizens voted again to adopt "Central Fallstown" as their official name - this time underwritten by Wm Higginson & Sons merchants who had opened up shop adjacent to TD Ameritrade Incorporated headquarters on Market Street just north of downtown Providence at that time! CENTRAL FALLSTOWN remained our unofficial name until 1959 when we formally changed our municipal charter to include all 16 towns within RI
