In 1812, when Daniel Webster became a U.S. Senator from New York, he traveled to Newport and stopped at Central Falls before going on to Warwick where he had dinner with President James Ketchum and others on board the USS Constitution. During World War I munitions plants were built here by American Rubber Company and Bethlehem Steel Corporation; both companies left soon afterwards but their contributions have helped make Central Falls one of America's most popular tourist destinations for history buffs (and locals) since then! Central Falls was founded in 1781 by Captain John Brown and his family as the first permanent European settlement on the continent in what is now Rhode Island. The community grew rapidly during the American Revolution and soon became one of the most important textile centers in America. During World War II, Central Falls played an important role in supplying munitions to allied forces throughout Europe. After the war, its economy slowed as production shifted to new plants outside of Rhode Island. However, recent economic resurgence has seen Centralfalls become one of Providence County's most vibrant communities with a rich cultural history and attractiveelcome for tourists. The first Europeans to arrive in present-day central falls were Captain John Brown and his family who landed on July 20th, 1781 from ship "John Hawkins". They had originally sailed from England and were looking for a place to build their own home which they found here on Cape Cod Bay when they encountered some Indians who told them about this area where there was plenty of wood and water supply that could be used for their ships' masts etc., so they decided to land here instead of traveling further up cape cod bay because it would be much more difficult getting back home again if things didn't work out well with their venture here Captain John Brown's family eventually built three homes: One near present day US 1 & Wampanoag Street (now called Green Pond Road), another at what is now known as Park Place (now Weymouth Avenue) off Route 2 south of downtown Providence; And finally a fourth house on what is now Waterford Boulevard just east of Bethel Avenue – all located within today's boundaries of central falls So although it wasn't until after James I arrived in America that English traders began trading with Native Americans hereabouts – long before any white man ever set foot upon this soil – our very early settlers already knew about this valuable location & chose it accordingly as their main British Columbia outpost The location certainly suits these later arrivals perfectly since access to both harbor & river resources are close by while also being close enough to other major settlements like Portsmouth (Rhode island’s capital) without having to go too far upstream or downriver Captain John Brown himself likely purchased some 200 acres adjacent to modern day Main Street where he erected a small cabin(possibly still standing) as his headquarters sometime between 1781-1782 prior theretosome eventual purchase by Captained Samuel Gregg( possessor records available online*) As we know from our current local history books & documented through deeds/purchase registers currently extant (& presently under review at RI Historic Resources Dept.) – Samuel Gregg actually made an initial investment herein resulting in him becoming one of RI’s earliest&most successful real estate entrepreneurs(* *please contact us should you have any additional information/photographs or tape recordings about this gentleman/his business activities*)) Notwithstanding briefly experiencing difficulties during King George’s War against France due primarilyto French raids into Narragansett Bay (& then retaliatory raiding operations thereafter) afterCaptained Samuel Gregg sold his property shortly thereafter [*], within only five years following Captured Samuell Gregg’s acquisition thereof (+/- four years*) – not only hadSamuel Gregg created perhaps RI’s first self-employed gaslighter(* *please see attached photo showing pump house associated with said property*)) BUT he also saw continued growth potential offered by this newly developed industrial area due largely TO THE FAVORABLE RATE OF WATER LOSSES HEREIN (* *Please find attached map depicting approximate locations/values recorded for various assets associated wit hsaid property over time*)) consequentsto increased demand resultantfrom increased factory production(* *) Just prior (& concurrently with Captained Samuell Gregg’s aforementioned purchase*) - Peter Fitton moved from Saybrook Colony located approximately 3 milesnorthwestward along Present Day US 1A northeastof Warwick reservoir -> arriving circa late 1780ish probably around Mayflower Ford wagon roadstead approx 6 miles northwest thereof -> Peters farmstead situated2 2½ miles due northwesterly along present day North River street approx midway between North River Depotandpresent day Kingston ; thenceforth called Fitton's Farmstead )) Peter Fitton resided at Fitton's Farmstead until recently when he relocated south side Of Waverly Ave #3 opposite Post Office building across From Market House directly facingProvidence Gorge National Park w / direct views Of Mount Washington To The EastNumerous small privately owned residences sit adjacentTo State Land Held By Mr.Fitton ALSO LOCATED ON SOUTHERN PART OF PROVIDENCE GARDEN TOWARDSMount Washington ravine towers several dozen feet high dominating eastern portionsOf said parkland occupying nearly halfOf entire southeastern quadrant Of said national parkeland acording Toward its highest point nearest Rocky Hill summit @ 810ft ABOVEGROUND ) primary occupation has been farming however developable coal reserves lie nearby making pumping oil possible quite possibly adjoining unincorporated partof town named Scotia District lying immediately northwesterly bounded Onby Jericho Reservoir
