Central Falls, Rhode Island is a small town located in the Providence metropolitan area. The population was 3,651 at the 2010 census. Holsters were first developed here in the early 1800s as a way to keep handguns secure and accessible while on duty. In 1868, the Central Falls Herald reported that a group of men were arming themselves to take on Indian raiders. The men were from the town of Cranston and were made up of merchants, farmers, and mechanics. They were also armed with shotguns and pistols. The men had gathered around a local blacksmith who had made them some rudimentary firearms. The first gunfight between American settlers and Native Americans took place in Central Falls in 1868 when two groups of gunmen opened fire on each other. There was no one killed in the first encounter, but both sides sustained significant losses. The Indians burned down many homes in central Falls during their raids in 1868-69. This caused great fear among the American settlers and led to some armament being acquired by these people. In 1870, a group of white businessmen organized a militia unit called the "Rhode Island Volunteers" to protect their businesses from Indian raiding parties.

It is part of the Providence–Warwick Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what became Central Falls was made by Captain John Smith in 1635. On July 10, 1781, during the American Revolution, General George Washington and his army marched through Central Falls on their way to Boston. In 1865, when Rhode Island became a state, Central Falls was incorporated as a village and then town. In 1892 it was renamed Centralia after its founder's home village in Staffordshire England. On April 20th 1898 an eruption of Mount Vinson erupted from Taunton Volcano and caused widespread damage across most of New England including central Rhode Island; $1 million damage was done to crops and buildings there alone! A small community called Greenfield developed around this time near present-day Waterford but soon abandoned because of lack of water supplies from the main river valley (which still flows through Village today). At one point there were over 100 homes within 4 miles of central falls! Although much has changed since those days (the population has dwindled significantly) many people remain proudest residents of this historic center that once boasted 300 businesses with 2500 employees! Today many people visit central falls for both recreational purposes as well as business reasons; restaurants such as Sizzle Pizza offer delivery right to your door while several stores continue to operate unchanged from when they first opened back in 1898 including The Secondhand bookstore which has been open since 1921!

The name Central Falls was given to the town by General George Washington after he visited it on his way from New York City to Boston in 1775. The first permanent settler in what is now Central Falls was Nicholas Crane in 1681. The area now includes most of present-day Providence County and parts of Barnstable and Narragansett counties. In 1814, the cornerstone for the Mechanicsburg Academy was laid at what is now Fountain Square in Central Falls. In 1845, an act was passed providing that all towns within Providence County be consolidated into one body with a meeting place at which they could agree upon their common interests and concerns. On July 1, 1846, the new town of Central Falls became part of Providence County. In 1946, when Interstate 95 was completed through central Rhode Island and its eastern border changed fromRoute 1 to I-95E (the current corridor), Central Falls became one of its main intersections serving as both the original terminus for I-95E (and still does so) as well as portions of I-195W between Farmington and Warwick (which are now part of Pawtucket). On October 1st 1909 - just over 100 years after its incorporation - Centralfalls board voted to change its name from "Fountain Square" to "Central falls". This decision came about because there had been much talk about reviving a fall festival that had been discontinued many years ago due to lack of attendance or cost prohibitive expenses; however no such event ever took place again under this new name.
