York, Pennsylvania is home to the world's only standing shooting range. The range was opened in 1853 and has been kept up and running ever since. It offers a variety of shooting opportunities for both adults and children, as well as a training ground for law enforcement officers. In 1852, the first shot was fired at the range when six men from Lancaster County took part in a competition to see who could hit an apple off a tree. In 1861, the United States entered into World War II and York saw its first combat role as part of General George Patton's Third Army. As firearms became more important in society, York saw a rise in gun ownership throughout the early 21st century. The current shooting range was built in 1993 on land that once belonged to the old Lancaster rifle factory which manufactured rifles for both sides during World War I and World War II. Firearms production stopped after that factory closed but the rifle range remains open today thanks to donations by local businesses. The York Rifle Club offers instruction classes ranging from beginner to advanced levels with an emphasis on accuracy and safety. There are also monthly club meetings where members can come together to discuss target practice, NRA events happening nearby or just general topic discussion. The club also hosts many Gun Shows each year which provide opportunity for people of all ages to purchase firearms and shoot around some of America’s most popular targets including deer, shotguns, handguns and even sniper rifles!

The York County Sheriff's Office has a history of providing shooting protection for law enforcement officers. In 1978, the sheriff's office began providing body armor to deputies. The program continued until 1984. From 1985 through 2002, the department provided helmets and rifles to corrections officers. In 2003, the department began providing shields and vests to officers working in outdoor positions. Since 2004, the York County Sheriff's Office has also provided training on how to shoot safely using firearms.
York, Pennsylvania is a small town located in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now York County were French traders and Explorers in 1683-84. They named their new settlement La Salle afterJacques Marquette and his band of French explorers who had explored the Great Lakes region near present-day Chicago in 1679. The first settler in York was Nicholas Harlan who arrived in 1718 from Virginia. In 1792, Abraham Lincoln moved to York with his family and became an early leader of the Republican party there. In 1827, Congress established a United States Territorial government for the entire Territory of Allegheny which included much of what is now York County. In 1828, David Thompson built Fort Pitt on the confluence of the Monongahela and Penn rivers as part of his explorations northward into Canada during the mid 1800s as part of efforts by American pioneers to gain access to Rupert's Land (now Alberta). When President James K. Polk discovered this land mass between North America and Asia through a Ulysses S Grant Maps expedition during his presidency in 1846, he decided to purchase it fromCanadian investors for use as a western border protectorate against Mexico This led directly to YORK COUNTY becoming one of 4 U.S. Territories that formed West Virginia when it was admitted into the Union on January 29th 1863 York served as its capital from 1861 until 1909 when Charleston became its capital due to increased population growth within West Virginia caused by railroads being built through that state . YORK remained its capital until 1911 when Morgantown became its capital due to increasing population growth within West Virginia caused byWorld War I . At that point both capitals were merged into Morgantown although they remain separate municipalities today The centerpiece of downtown Morgantown iscalled "Morgantown Square" which has been home to many businesses since it was platted around 1840 including banks such as First National Bank and Farmers Trust Company which still operate today along with numerous other businesses including two universities: Western Kentucky University and Mount Stromaloy State Universitywhich share one campus . The old bank building still stands next door facing Market Street

York was founded in 1795 by the brothers George and Josiah York. The city became a major center of finance and industry, and contributed to the explosive growth of Pennsylvania during the 18th century. However, after 1861−1865 respectively during the American Civil War (the war that ended slavery in America), YORK'S POLITICAL POWER DECLINED AND ITS ECONOMY GROWTH STOPPED abruptly; it only regained some level of stability beginning in 1870−1875 with various waves of immigration from Eastern Europe[1][2] which rebuilt many factories closed down during reconstruction efforts following the Great Depression which began around 1929[3]. York has seen steady growth since its incorporation into PA as an unincorporated community on October 14th 1902.[4] From then until present day many advances have been made including several large high schools(WPI-Pennsylvania State University-2007-2018), several hospitals(University Hospitals Discharge Center/Lancet West Penn Memorial Hospital/Harrisburg Regional Medical Center) making it home to 2 dozen shopping malls across 7 states wide plus Ironton Mall being built just outside town limits displacing almost all previous malls within minutes traveler convenience wise,[5][6] numerous restaurants opening up along with more than 20 new high tech companies starting up each year[7], multiple events taking place annually including 3 NCAA Division I basketball tournaments (2015–present), A total area development now totaling over $160 million dollars being put together all within town limits including a new professional soccer stadium coming soon; Numerous Indoor Soccer Arena’s popping up now across PA every few years every year or so not forgetting High School Football Championships played here yearly also! And all this while still having much room left for future development keeping our citizens safe by providing Law Enforcement services 24/7 right where they are needed!
