York is a borough in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The borough was formed from parts of the former city of York and became one of the original 21 municipalities in Pennsylvania when it was created in 1792. York borders Lawrence Township to the south and east, Monongahela Township to the north, and Westmoreland Township to the west. The site where York now stands was once inhabited by three confederate generals who fought in the American Civil War: George Armstrong Custer, Ulysses S. Grant, and Andrew Johnson. In 1801, John Smith founded a settlement here on land that he had bought fromheny traders for £2 per acre (the present-day Wilson Creek Park). On December 26th, 1814 (the day before Christmas), York's first settler - John Forbes - laid out a town square which still overlooks today's downtown district. At this time there were but two buildings in town: an old watchtower known as "Fenwick House" and what is now known as "the Blacksmith Shop". In 1815-1816 local farmers began planting wheat on lands near downtown which soon yielded so much fruit that they built several stockyards for exporting their produce to Philadelphia and other markets around North America. In 1840-1841 a large iron foundry was constructed on Prospect Avenue; it continues to operate as present day Diamond Foundry Business Park located just off I-376 Exit 245A South near York Hospitality District

Additionally, development is ongoing near Interstate 76 along Route 309 which will bring more jobs to the area as well as retail businesses planned for what will be one of America's largest open spaces - an 8 million square foot mixed use project called Gateway Park scheduled to open in 2021 adjacent to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre International Airport

The first courthouse was built in 1762 and served as the seat of government for both York County and Pennsylvania. In 1814, York became part of Robinson Township in Adams County. In 1868, it became a city within Pennsylvanian City Hall system.
