York, Pennsylvania is a small town in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania that is located on the York River. The population was 5,890 as of the 2010 census. York was founded by German immigrants in 1714 and became part of the United States in 1781. The town was named for York County, England, where many of the original families came from. The first settler in what is now York County was Johann Wilhelm Sievers, who arrived there in 1714 and built a cabin near present-day downtown Yorktown Heights. In 1742, John Forbes erected a log store at what is now Market Square to serve settlers upstream and around Lakes Erie and Monongahela Counties. English cattle were raised here until about 1840 when all but one farm was abandoned because of railroad construction nearby – this exception being Trinity Church which still stands today as one of the oldest brick structures in central PA . In 1828 two brothers named Isaac Chaffee bought land along Beaver Creek from John Nicholson for $2 per acre to establish what would become known as Giant’s Mills Millrace between Giant’s Creek and West Side Street—the first such mill west of the Allegheny Mountains! In 1829–30 George Stephenson erected his locomotive engine No 6 at King’s Bridge over Beaver Creek to power equipment used at Giant’s Mills Millrace for ground transportation downstream to flour mills owned by Joshua Tuttle & Company on Great Falls Road just belowpresent-day Downtown Yorktown Heights . This event signaled an important change for Lancaster County: no longer did farmers transportation their goods downriver on boats but instead they transported their product using locomotives! In 1839–40 Amos Eaton purchased some vacated farms east of downtownYorktown Heights from David Dixon for $1 per acre after hearing about his vision for developing this area into a thriving commercial center with new housing developments – Eaton called it “Eaton Park." Eaton's plan included building hotels, stores, warehouses and other commercial buildings on acres bordering High Street between Front Street (now State Route 11) northward and Second Avenue eastward while Randolph Road extended southward from Main Street to include much of today's downtownYorktown Heights . At first these plans only included development within walls or gates surrounding Eaton Park but due to strong demand both inside and outside Eaton Park various roads (eastern avenue including High Streets Gaylord streets intersecting northerly), riverbanks (), parks ()and neighborhoods have since been developed around Eaton Park totaling approximately 122 acres (. ..). This has resulted in Queen's Domain - once comprising only 2% of total land area within park boundaries - becoming oneofthe most important parcels within city limits . It wasn't until after General James Knoppers' Invasion Of Canada that extensive farming began occurring east of downtownYorktown Heights with largescale deforestation taking place throughout mostcentralPAdue to colder winter temperatures across northern PA caused by lack offarmy resources available during war years
