York, Pennsylvania is a town of about forty thousand people in central Pennsylvania. It is the county seat of York County and has a population of over seventy-five thousand. The town was founded in 1795 by English settlers as part of the Province of Pennsylvania. In 1802, York became the capital of the United States after Philadelphia was renamed to that purpose. The first gun mags were started in York in 1868 by Johnnie Ladd and his partner James Gentry. At that time, there were no licensed firearms dealers in York County and all guns had to be purchased from farmers or other local source. These early mags printed pamphlets advertising sales and Gun shows throughout the year as well as new arrivals to the area. In 1886, two brothers named John Fenton opened a store near wherepresent day Penn's Landing sits on the Susquehanna River. They continued to operate this store until it burned down in 1904. The next year saw the opening of another gun shop called Gable & Murdoch which was located on Market Street between Second and Third Streets across from what is now Drexel University’s main campus building. This store also served as an importer/export center for many European arms manufacturers at that time including Krupp, Steyr Mannlicher, Mauser 1888 Carbine, Browning Automatic Rifle and more! In 1907, entrepreneur David Sanger opened up his own gun shop on Market Street between Second and Third Streets which he called “The Arsenal” After several years of successful business operation he sold his business to George Hennepin who operated it until 1916 when it was destroyed by fire! In 1922, another entrepreneur named Harry Morse bought out George Hennepin’s interest and reopened “The Arsenal” under its present name with a new floor plan! In 1933 Harry Morse passed away leaving his son Milton Morse running “The Arsenal” until 1945 when it closed again due to World War II shortages! In 1951 Dick Blanco made an unsuccessful bid for ownership but ultimately failed because he could not afford the expenses required! In 1957 Alarm clock manufacturer Harris Guns (later Glock) moved their corporate headquarters from Illinois to Yorktown Heights (now part of Lancaster) inside what is now known as Smith & Wesson Plaza after purchasing handgun manufacturing rights from David Sanger! From then on Glocks became one of Valley Forge’s most popular brands ! It wasn't until 1978 when commercial magazine owner Bob Kapp took over operations from Milton Morse that things really started getting interesting here at "The Arsenal"! Bob quickly turned "The Arsenal" into one of America's premiere monthly magazine publishers/sellers with nearly four hundred magazines published annually today !!!!!

In 1876 the York Rifle and Pistol Magazines Company merged with the Lancaster Rifle and Pistol Ammunition Company to form the Lancaster Ammo Manufacturers Association. That same year, Captain John York donated his entire stock of pistols to that organization.
