After World War II ended, economic development began to take hold in York with several new businesses opening up such as H&R Block & Co., Wachovia Bank & Trust Company (later Wells Fargo), FedEx Express Inc., Penn State University Moravian College, KFC Corporation (later Kentucky Fried Chicken), Coca ColaCola Bottling plant #1 (now PepsiCo), Air National Guard base Elizabethtown near downtown York/the airport (closed since 1993) as well as numerous housing developments over time which have helped drive local employment levels up significantly over past decades. Despite these challenges however, there are still some communities in York County that enjoy very high levels of social activity and cultural significance such as Hatboro Township where there are three annual events - "Hatboro Folk Festival", "Hatboro Renaissance Fair" and "Hatboro Arts & Crafts Festival". A large reason why York remains an important community is its location: it is bordered by two municipalities - Philadelphia on one side and Chester on the other - making it easy for people to get around without having to spend too much time driving or walking long distances between places.
