In 1863, Yeadon was the site of one of the most significant engagements in American history. The battle began when Union General Ulysses S. Grant's army invaded Pennsylvania and encountered Confederate General Robert E. Lee's forces at the town of Gettysburg. The Confederate forces were outnumbered and outgunned, but they fought tooth and nail to protect their own lines of communication and supply points. In the end, Grant's army emerged victorious, carrying away with it an immense amount of arms and munitions which helped fuel America's war effort for years to come.
Yeadon is a small town in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, located in Butler County. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The town was named after George Yeadon, an early settler on the frontier of what is now Pennsylvania. George and his family had come from England in 1784 and started a log cabin here on the banks of the Monongahela River. By 1800, Yeadon had been renamed for John Dickinson, who represented Allegheny County in Congress from 1789 to 1801. In 1814, Yeadon became one of four original townships that formed Butler County; it remained so until 1945 when it was merged into Allegheny County. During World War II, Yeadon played a significant role as Plant No. 9 for DuPont during munitions development at its R&D center there; its proximity to DuPont's plants at Scranton and Wilkes-Barre made it an important manufacturing center for both industries during post-war America's wartime boom. Today, many businesses are headquartered here including Allstate claims adjuster subsidiary Allstate Corp., Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co., FirstEnergy Corporation (formerly Mutual Energy) and Bethlehem Steel Company (now ArcelorMittal). There are also several hospitals such as Hahnemann University Hospital and Mount Carmel Medical Center as well as numerous small businesses like KFC corporate headquarters which are situated near Second Mile Elementary School across the street from local fire department station #4 which has been home to Volunteer Ambulance Department since 1925

Yeadon is a town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reading Township government. Yeadon was founded by English colonists in 1795 as a farmstead on the north side of West Branch Creek. The name "Yeadeon" means "place between the woods." The first African Americans to live in Yeadon were James and Sally Cook who arrived in 1819. They raised pigs and chickens and sold their produce to local farmers. In 1830, John Crain purchased land at Yeadeon and began operating a sawmill which he built from logs bought from Native Americans. In 1832, George Washington Forbes came to live in Yeadon with his wife Sarah Jane Forbes and their children Adam, Catharine (known as Kitty), Ebenezer (born about 1837), John Forbes (1838-1911) and Hannah Lewis (1840-1920). He worked as a blacksmith for local farmers before starting his own grocery store near where he later lived. In 1836, Isaac Humphreys moved from Lancaster County to start an agricultural enterprise near present-day Yeadon with $2 per acre of land acquired from various owners including Benjamin Franklin Butler Sr., father of future President Benjamin Franklin Butler III. Humphreys organized four teams of men to plant corn on 160 acres he leased from Mr. Potter located east of town on what is now State Route 246 south of Center Road/Route 222 west of Interstate 78/Upshur Avenue In 1840, Amos Eaton founded Eaton's Express Grocery Store at First Street & Market Place in downtown Yeadon after moving therefrom Lancaster County with his family following the death of his parents Amos Eaton Sr./Mary Ann Eaton on February 26th that year while they were attending an Episcopal serviceschool camp outside Philadelphia . His son Amos Jr./John Eaton opened the store two years later followed by daughter Clarissa Eliot Eaton(1851-)in 1861 . The stores grew into one large chain with stores throughout Berks County until it merged with J E Weismann's Jewish Grocery Stores Incorporated vtiun 2002 effective dates November 15 th thru December 15 th . By 1950 there were over 1,500 stores operating statewide within twenty five states
The town of Yeadon was founded in 1795 by John Yeadon and his family. The first store was built on the site that is now the town hall. Yeadon had a courthouse and jail before the area became a village in 1812. In 1847, the post office was moved to Yeadon from Whitehall after that community lost its earlier source of postal service. In 1865, it became part of the new United States County of Allegheny and declined in population over time. In 1920, it merged with Washington Township to form Yeadon-Washington Township Borough. It reverted to its original name as an independent township in 1974 when it merged with Clearfield Township to form Clearfield Township Borough again. Yeadon has three schools: one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school which serves grades 9 through 12th grade. The borough also has a fire department and park district which operate within the boundaries of the borough limits
