In 1877, he served as advisor to Plessy v Ferguson, which led to civil unrest over Jim Crow Laws across America After leaving office, Washington traveled abroad for several years until he died at age 96 at his home in Arlington National Cemetery on May 14th, 1881 Washington's legacy continues today as one of history's most influential figures - both inside and outside America himself - due to his accomplishments during his lifetime including developing our current system of government and helping lead us into World War II . In 1853, Yeadon became a part of the newly created Westmoreland Township. The first post office in Yeadon was established in 1819. The first store in Yeadon opened in 1824. The first school was built in 1827 and served as the only school until it burned down in 1840. In 1865, Yeadon became a part of the new borough of Allentown. In 1907, the borough merged with neighboring Whitehall Township to form Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Borough. In 1916, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Borough merged with Lycoming County to create Dauphin County. Dauphin County abolished its township system on January 1, 1921, creating instead an independent municipality known as York City which continued to exist until its merger into Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Borough on November 3rd of that year. On October 15th of that year, York City merged into Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Borough effective immediately due to lack of support from either side and ended almost 2 centuries of separate existence within Dauphin County - one of the most rural counties in America!
