Yeadon, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the state of Pennsylvania. The population was 9,171 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Beaver County. Yeadon is named for Isaac Yeadon. The area now called Yeadon was first settled by Europeans in 1784. The first permanent settler was John Prentice, who came from Scotland and built what is now known as Prentice's Corners on a bend in the Susquehanna River. He named his tract "Beaver Falls." In 1810, James Caldwell settled here and built Caldwell's Mills on the west side of the river near present-day Beaver Dam Road. In 1815, John Denton bought Caldwell's mills and re-established them as The Denton Manufacturing Company. By 1830, most of Beaver County had been organized; Yeadon remained an unincorporated village until it became part of Beaver Township in 1847 when it became one of five townships created within Huntingdon County by Act No. 527 of that year. The post office at Yaedon was established on October 15, 1824 (one week after establishment of Allegheny County), becoming operational on November 3rd under the name "Annville". On July 1st 1870, it changed its name to "Beaverdam". On November 3rd 1870, due to urban growth around Annville along with increasing railroad traffic throughtowns such as Erie and Pittsburgh into neighboring Indian Territory (now West Virginia), all sixteen post offices were combined into one new office at Beaverdam which remained open until May 25th 1906 when it closed because OFR discontinued mail service between cities along with many other services due to budget cuts made during World War I efforts to save money while war effort goals were met). For six months from December 4th 1906 until May 25th 1906 there was no mail service available due to bad weather conditions caused by Hurricane Agnes which struck western PA late that evening killing twenty two people including four postal workers) resulting in a letter sent out early next morning announcing that all former offices had been closed because OFR decided not to resume service because letters could only be delivered if ordered two days ahead through local carriers and this did not meet wartime priorities for troop morale reasons; note: This closure also affected Annville where residents received their letters via paper boats coming upriver from nearby Coshoctaw Lake
