Yeadon is a small town in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,568 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Yeadon is located on the banks of the Susquehanna River. The area that now makes up Yeadon was first settled by Germans in 1795 as part of a large area called "The Palatinate." When Germany became an American nation in 1871, many of these German settlers moved to what is now Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. In 1881, The Township of Yeadon was organized and named for John A. Yealdon, one of these early settlers. John A. Yealdon (1811-1887) came to America from Germany in 1841 and started a family here in Yeadon soon after arrival. He owned and operated a tavern called "The Eagle" until his death in 1886. His son John A., Jr., also an entrepreneur and owner of several businesses including a grocery store and lumberyard, took over management at the age of 24 when his father died suddenly three years later. The younger Yealdon ran the business until he sold it to his brother Harry Fenton in 1936; then Harry Fenton sold it to his wife Edna Laughlin Yealdon who continued running it as an independent business until her death in 1984; finally it passed into private hands again when it was purchased by current owner David Hynes effective October 10th 2009 . For nearly two centuries this small town had its own newspaper - The Daily Review - published weekly from local offices located on Main Street between Third Avenue (then Fourth Avenue) and Fifth Avenue (now Sixth Street). This paper served as community voice for residents throughout much of what is now Luzerne County with news articles reprinted freeform all over the commonwealth including statewide stories reprinted twice each week during prohibition era; ads placed regularly throughout every issue advertising items such as farm machinery or coal supplies available for sale locally or by mail order ; dances held annually around Labor Day weekend featuring local talent or charity events etc.; social clubs offering everything from golfing outings to potluck Dinners were popular among residents during this time period
