Williamsport is a city in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the county seat of Lackawanna County and has a population of 37,000 as of the 2010 census. Williamsport was founded by Germans in 1795. The city's first gun store opened in 1837. The first shooting club was formed in 1853. In 1865, the town became part of the new Uniontownship. In 1898, the US Post Office moved to Williamsport from Scranton after being destroyed by fire two years earlier in Scranton. In 1907, the boroughs of Easton and Northumberland merged into Williamsport while still separate from each other; this created a single municipality with a population of 68,043 as of2010 census. On December 15th, 1912 an attempt was made on President Woodrow Wilson's life by an anarchist group calling themselves "The Gunners". No arrests were made and no one was hurt during this attempt but it did set off alarm among some who felt that such measures were becoming more common due to America's entry into World War I (1914-18). Williamsport experienced its highest literary production when many authors and painters resided there during the late 1800s including Walt Whitman and Nathaniel Hawthorne; however violence continued to be a problem until well into the 20th century with examples include shooting outside local bars in 1905 which left three people dead and several injured; an example also found at local high school where students used airguns recreationally until state prohibition began effective January 1st 1911 Johnson &Johnson Shooting Centers Incorporated opened up shop selling pistols only 3 months later on October 14th 1911

Williamsport was founded on July 4, 1754 by Sir William Williams and his heirs as an agricultural and military outpost on the Susquehanna River. The town was named after General John Forbes who defeated British forces at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. In 1814, a canal was constructed through Williamsport to connect its situated along the Susquehanna with Philadelphia City (now known as downtown Philadelphia). The town became an industrial center during the 19th century due to its production of cheese and other milk products; coal mining also began in this period. During World War II, many factories were produced in Williamsport; among them were two GE Aircraft plants which made jet aircraft for America's allies and bombers for Japan. After hostilities ended in 1945, most production shifted to new plants elsewhere in Pennsylvania but some old factories continued to operate until they closed in the early 1990s. By 2000, only one GE plant remained active inWilliamsport-the former Bethlehem Steel plant which produces locomotives and electric railway cars

Williamsport is a town in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 8,832 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area since its incorporation in 1907. Williamsport is located on the Tenn Kill River and is bordered by the borough of Johnstown to the north, Monongahela Township to the east, and Armstrong Township to the south. The town began as a small hamlet on what is now White Horse Pike (U.S. Route 19) just east of present-day Williamsport proper. Settlement continued for several years until 1829 when a post office was established at what is now known as Spring Grove Avenue in nearby Johnstown. In 1834, Williamsport became an organized village with six buildings and 50 residents. That year, it also gained status as a city withinPittsburgh Township effective July 1, 1907. The first mayor of Williamsport was James Aitken who served from 1835 to 1840; followed by George Wirtz from 1840 to 1845; then Joseph Cavanaugh from 1846 to 1850; Augustus Hickey from 1850 to1855; David Larkin from 1855 to 1860; John Jahnbaugh from 1860 to 1865; Daniel Mayhew from 1865 to 1870; and Reuben Shephard from 1870 back into township government until 1880 when he resigned due largely to financial problems caused by new Pittsburg zoning regulations which favored large industrial establishments over small towns like Williamsport
