However, over time some farming began to take place on this land as well as coal mining which led to the village being founded by Colonel Robert Wilkin in 1795 on what is now called Old Main Street near his home farmstead known as Kilpatrick's Hillock or "Kilpatrick's Knob". In 1868, when Pittsburgh annexed Allegheny County, Wilkinsburgh Borough became part of the new county and its name reverted back toWilkinsburgh Township after having been spelled without an initial letter for many years. Today much of that original township remains within present day Monongahela Township although it has since been divided into two parcels: one forming Clairton while the other becoming Little Biglowsville where manufacturing centered around aluminum plants during high tech days once thrived before going outmoded due to automation etc., although auto production transferred from Clairton outside Monongahela towards nearby Steeltown during recent decades . Although there have been numerous changesover time including annexation by other municipalities various Sawmills still operate today supplying lumber products such as cedar boards & windows etc used throughout Western PA & beyond
