In fact, according to historian Donatella Luysterman's book "The Lancaster Explosion: A History of Williamstown Township", when Lancaster began rapidly expanding into Bucks County during the late 1800s and early 1900s – exploding with businesses spawned out of increased trade with neighboring counties – locals feared “the end [of] their little town” because they could no longer rely on agriculture alone to support their economy…. At times like these years when things are going well for a place like Williamstown Township – with thriving businesses clustering right around Main Street – you can see why people feel close knit even though they live miles apart." Today's economy is based largely on services such as health care and government employment rather than agriculture which once supported much of the township's cultural life including music festivals such as PNEfest (formerly PA Folk Festival), Quiz Show Uprising (now Quiz Nights), PuppetFest etcetera back in those days
