Whitehall is a small town in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Whitehall was founded in 1781 by General George Washington and his Hessian troops. The first store in the community opened in 1801. In 1824, Whitehall became home to the U.S. Department of State headquarters and remained so until 1974 when it moved to Foggy Bottom, Washington D.C.. The community's history can be traced back to early settlers who came from England and Scotland during the Revolutionary War for independence from British rule. Some of these families also settled on what is now Whitehall Township Road 615 east of present-day Whitehall Park after arriving there from Bucks County (now Delaware County). Afterward, other English and Scotch-Irish farmers arrived over time until most of today's residents were born or raised here within one generation or less of each other: many are descended from those who founded York Tavern on Market Street about 1790 which became known as "the Old Tavern". In 1800, Colonel John Forbes built a log cabin near what is now Green Lane within whitehall Township; he named it Forbes' Tavern after himself and his brother-in-law Major James Forbes (a prominent landowner), both Scottish noblesman who had sided with America against Great Britain during the war years preceding its conclusion two years earlier. That same year saw another milestone in local history – Congress created Montgomery County out of portions of Bucks and Lancaster counties following their victory at Saratoga Field; Montgomery had been desired by some but not yet attainable due to large areas still under British occupation at that point including much of central Pennsylvania including Yorktown Heights where George Washington had fought six years earlier while commandant of Fort Arlington near Philadelphia… 16 miles southwest of present day Whitehall along Route 615/Old York Road) In 1802 an act was passed by Congress authorising four marriages between wealthy anglophones living abroad with native Americans “for purposes only civil”: Captain Elias Boudreau’s bride Miss Elizabeth Steward was married to David Wilson (future US Congressman) then Lieutenant Colonel Amos Stroud’s wife Mrs Jane Fairfax bought land adjacent topresent day Blue Mountain Ski Resort for Mr John Dickinson (future US Senator) all three properties becoming known as “Dickinson Farms” . One misprint appears on this document – Dickinson farm should have read “Forbes Farms” These early settler days were very difficult due to lack thereof basic infrastructure such as roads & water available nearby making travel difficult & dangerous especially on horseback through snow drifts etc.; even today many people speak ancient dialects here which gives some unique experiences! Unfortunately things have not always been rosy for these hard working pioneers especially since taxes began being levied throughout our township starting with $1 per poll tax assessed in Allegheny county back then payable quarterly rather than every 4 weeks as they are currently done; needless levied taxes only serve To further impoverish taxpayers more often knowing full well their intentions! Although we continue striving valiantly everyday towards improvements considerateLocal officials seem intent upon continuing down this negative path example given recent decisions regarding building a new state government office complex just outside our town limits without prior notification whatsoever despite protests (&Opinion polling results!)

Whitehall is a town in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,221 at the 2010 census. Whitehall is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. It was first settled by English colonists in 1768 and named for William White, who had been captain of HMS Dolphin during the French and Indian War. The post office at Whitehall was established in 1775. The town became a village in 1892 and again in 1907. In 1939 it lost its incorporation as a town but remains an unincorporated community with civil government under the jurisdiction of Erie County.

Whitehall is one of the most affluent and politically active communities in Dauphin County. Whitehall has been a municipal government since 1868 and is currently governed by a three-member Borough Council with nine members elected at-large. The Mayor is also an elected official who serves as the head of city government. The area that would become Whitehall was first settled by Scots settlers in 1736. In 1800, John Hays purchased land east of what is now Center Road and South Fifth Street from the Lenape Native Americans for £10 per mile (16 cents per acre). The town name "Haysville" may be derived from this purchase or it could be connected to Scottish Colonel James Hays who had come to America in 1768 as part of General Forbes' American Expedition against Spain. In 1828, Chas Sennett bought land west of Center Road and south of South Fifth Street for $1 per acre from John Hays. At this time, much of what would become Whitehall Township was still part of Dutch East Indies territory controlled by Britain. Sennett named his settlement "New Amsterdam" after New York City which he had just returned from exploring during his trip across North America on HMS Beagle in 1824. In 1839, Abraham Lincoln owned land near present day Springdale Avenue and North Fourth Street which he called "Lincoln's Prairie." He donated this property to the township for use as public ground and playground; however, due to its location on Indian territory it remained under British control until 1898 when it became part of United States territory following the Treaty Of Paris ending World War I. This former British territory included much of what now forms northwestern Pennsylvania including Whitehall Township including parts of adjacent Centre County which would later join Dauphin County form the current borough complex. On November 6th, 1864, Anthony Wayne purchased 4 acres east of Center Road from Jesse Cody for $5 peracre – this was considered an important sale because it marked Wayne's first attempt to start a town on his new land grantee system designed specifically for rural development within Indian Territory without having to go through London’s Commissioners Court process which often took years to approve new townships or villages
