In 1837, Mr. John Smeaton founded what would become known as Smeaton & Son Optics Company in Whitehall PA based upon his experience manufacturing optical components for artillery platforms during World War II (Smeaton also designed an early weather radar system). These adapters allow owners of certain AR platforms such as 9mm pistols with standard Weaver optics Additionally, there are dummy rounds available that feature Picatinny rails on one end capable of accepting both iron sights (for aiming down range) as well as standard A2 style sights (-4 MOA @ 100 yards). Whitehall was founded in 1751 by George Washington as a small, agricultural village on the Susquehanna River. In 1800, Whitehall became part of the new Pennsylvania statehood. It served as the capital of Pennsylvania from 1786 to 1801 and again from 1815 to 1819. The population of Whitehall peaked in 1820 at 1,500 residents and declined rapidly thereafter; by 1830, only 100 people lived there. In 1923, Whitehall was renamed Philadelphia after then-President James K. Polk's inauguration as the 25th president of the United States.
