Whitehall is located in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania. The town was founded by white settlers in 1784 and named for George Washington, who had visited it that year. In 1822, Whitehall became a borough; in 1851 it became a village. On July 16, 1907, Whitehall incorporated as a city and remained so until 1959 when it reverted to its original name as a borough. The current mayor is Scott Wagner (D). Whitehall's economy revolves around agriculture and trade with surrounding counties.
